This is orsum I new Ray Box would make somthing work if there was enough intrest, Ray ownes the Sport Compact Group & runs jambo & compact attack in sydney, you carnt run quads at WSID but you could at willow bank on wed fri nights at off street meets, hopefully Ray pulls some strings & we could race at WSID, only at his events i'd say though unless ANDRA did the smart thing & just adopted the NHRA ATV class rules for a start & adjust them as needed.
What saftey gear bike safety stuff did you need to pass scruteneering?
looks like i'll be busy next jambo racing cars & quads sweet. |

I would like thank Ray Box for all his hard work to get the quads on the Tarmac.
ANDRA only gave us the go ahead Friday afternoon at 3 .30pm
It was a big effort also by Andra to get it all together in such a short time having the bikes Tech inspected.
And a bigger effort by the Explosive Crew for all the hours spent all week getting the bikes ready to meet Tech requirements.
It was a great weekend at Willow Bank we went out Tar Racing not knowing excatly what we were in for but came away learning a whole lot more.
The bike run nicely we were under geared for the 200m and our setups could do with some fine tuning.
The times were a little slow with ETs of 6.7sec @200 @96mph.
The times run equate to a mid to hi 10 sec quater.
It was an amazing experiance to be apart of such a big event.
We cant wait to get back out soon. _________________ FOUR STROKE WARS CHAMPIONS USA 2009

This is a letter I was sent today by David Baker the ANDRA Technical Consultant.
" This was a special, one off approval that was given directly by the NCC. This took some time and currently the NCC, from my understanding, isn’t considering creating another class for these types of vehicles. "

Well, early votes from quadriders seem to be indicating a bit of a trend
If we had a say...
Should quads be limited to quad / bike motors?
Maybe with an 'unliited' class displacement of 1300cc or something.
Should we keep away from anything that's got 2 front wheels but just bolted a wheel each end of a LS1 crankshaft and kick it off the blocks at redline on the green light
(shouldn't laugh, someone will do it if there are no restrictions) _________________ Can-Am X Team

So does this mean no more Quad drags on ANDRA tracks? |
Having been involved with drag racing for the better part of 15 years now as both a competitor & in the background with Willowbank Raceway (working for one of their major suppliers) the one thing I've learned when it comes to getting something to go from concept to reality is making sure all the hard work is done so that the NCC just has to look over it & give it the rubber stamp.....i.e. don't go to them with a problem....be proactive & give them the answer to the question you are about to ask them.
Something you need to remember with ANDRA is that have no foresight or interest in catering to up & coming trends/markets with regard to their racing categories.....i.e. they only have time for the dinosaur engine categories (they've only recently made allowances for EFI in cars).......they have really found it easier to allow SCG (Sport Compact Group....aka Ray Box) to look after the running of events that cater for new markets.
My advice to you to get more opportunities to race on the tarmac is to formulate rules for your own "classes" to make up a new "bracket" and decide what "group" to race under:
Group 1 - Heads up Pro Tree with no breakout ("Pro Series" only)
Group 2 - Heads up Pro Tree Class index system
Group 3 - Count Down Tree with Dial Your Own handicap system *
Group 4 - Fixed index
* recommended
Rather than just looking at just your own class of "ATV", you should also make allowances for classes for snowmobiles & scooters.....the reason for this is if you can offer a wider competitor opportunity you have more chance of attracting larger numbers of entrants & more of a visual spectacle for promotors to include in their programme and get bums on seats - that's what the tracks are look at when they decide to run events such as Willowbank Raceway's "International Nightfire Series" where they bring over the US Notro Funny Cars. |
