Can anyone offer me some advice please.

I have a 2008 DS450x, it seems to get hot pretty easy and goes into "limp home mode". The fan comes on ok and the coolant is full and the radiator clear etc, it does not even get hot enough to lose the coolant.

Has anyone had any experience with "engine ice", does this stuff really work?

Any advice & tricks appreciated. I know they shut down pretty quick if the radiator gets blocked with mud, (but this is not my problem at the moment) so would love to know what people have done to protect this as well.

Thanks

Ozy

There is a product of BELRAY NO TOX its better in the heat. Have you put a pipe on it? changed the fuel controller?

Yeah it's an easy fix mate just take it back to your dealer and get them to hook it up to the computer and upload the update for the limp home mode and that should fix it. Just to be safe run water wetter coolent in it. They are the only mods done to mine and never had a problem since. Except for the nats when i blocked the radiator up.

Let us know how you go and if you need anymore info just ask

Thanks mate, couldnt agree more. Can you clarify a bit more info for me on the "water wetter coolant" you refer too. Is that what is actually called? Do you get it from a bike shop or elsewhere?

cheers

Hey Ozy, Smitty's got it.
The standard 'limp home' setings were way to conservtive on the early 08 models up to a certain VIN number that your dealer can confirm.
The later setting is something like 8 degrees higher and also allows 7000rpm limp instead of 5500rpm.
I don't know how much difference the trick coolants make if anything.
The old glycol transfers heat pretty well.
The higher temp setting should see you right.

Refer your dealer to Buletin 2008-2.

PeteW can tell you more about it all I know is that is drops engine temp by about 10% over standard coolent. Wadey on this forum stocks it

Like Cowchaser said there is a software upgrade for the early 08 ECU's that increases the temperature that the "limp home" mode activates and also the rev limit for the limp home mode.

We had this problem, also not related to a blocked radiator and with pretty much only a change to Redline Water Wetter coolant additive (http://www.redlineoil.com.au/)rather than running Glycol based coolant and no more probs (except when the rad gets completely filled in with mud but that is a problem on any model, the limp home mode on the Can-Am is there to protect from major damage resulting from runnning over temp for extended periods of time)

I have used Engine Ice before as well and it does make some difference but it is still a glycol based coolant. Water Wetter is not glycol based and therefore does not have any anti-freeze properties and works best when added only to water but it can be added to glycol based coolants as well.
