I know Can-Am are, because I've had a test ride.
Wait till you see just how race ready they are.
There is absolutely nothing to change, just buy and race.

Hopefully we see them in time for X-mas... don't know.

i went in an priced the KTM 450 sx just the other day, it was $17,000 +, and that didnt even come with nerf bars and a few other fiddly things..... i would much rather the can-am, which comes with nerf bars, and has an alloy frame, and costs a good $2k less.

its good that these companies are bringing out these out of the box race ready machines, but its still no different than buying a stock bike for $12 and putting $5k of suspension and A-arms on it. unfortunatley quads are expensive, and even if you are really passionate about the sport, unless you have the money to get on a race ready 450, you are starting from way behind.

I just asked the Big Boss, and he said the price is not set yet for the Australian market...
so anything anyone has heard is a guess (doesn't mean it's wrong either).
I asked him "what is the price going to be" but he is not giving away any secrets.
He excitedly said I might be presently surprised though.

No answers but maybe good news hey?

i hope so, because i am very interested in getting a DS 450 x mx.

i think my local distributor may have got mixed up with the 08 ds 450 x, but there really couldnt be too much difference in price.

i will have to see and ride the KTM and CANam's first
but having 3 canam dealers in Townsville
and only one half ktm shop i think it'll be an easy choice!

I think i wanna like the KTM's more but dont;(

I have it from a reliable source that the DS450X MX (the out of the box ready to race one) will be in between $12 and $13K which will be great value for a ready to race quad.....

With the KTM, Can-Am, Yamaha, PoPo and Suzuki all MX ready I can't see the manufacturers hikeing up the price as they just wont sell them. Actually I see the one with the best price selling the most; feature wise there is not much between them all.

Competitionis a good thing.........Yay.

IMHO I think its great that Quads going down this road to race ready Quads ,however I believe they are race ready only to a point ,pros will actually need more to keep up with a purpose built racer .
Just a few things to consider ...
1) No long travel suspension
2) No ZPS
3) Suspension set to limited weight range ,if you are over or under you will need to spend money to make spring and internal changes to get them optimum and even then you will be disadvantaged with limited travel and poor progression.
3) KTM rear swingarm has no link and once goes over center gets soft and lacks progression and is around two inches less travel than a Honda with PEP and JB Swing arm with Superlink that has great progression and bottoming resistance capabilities ,I can run at between 6-10" of frame height by adjusting Ride height with ZPS PEP,on the KTM you are limited to Heights with tyres and frame is around 8 to 10" on a KTM .
Most MX Racers run between 7-8 inches for best cornering and IMHO races are won in corners.
I believe you you are not getting a properly set up racer to suit disciplines, ability and weights .
What about the cost of service, parts ,parts availability ,all of life costs ?
I haven't done any sums but it may be worth looking into .
As they get old they will need serious maintenance and this will effect resale value as a prospective buyer of a used machine .
Please don't get me wrong they are two great quads and If you own one for all round riding and racing ,nice choice .
If you are a supported rider on one even better as you will be privileged to the extras you will need to race one at its most competitive.
For Now Ill keep the Honda set up just the way I like it and for not too much more money .
Smile

Hi Len you say that for not much more than a 09 KTM, Yamaha or Can Am you can setup your honda for the not much more money.
try this

$13,000 approx new trx 450 09
nerf bars $300+
kill switch $30+
beadlocks rear and MX tyres $1500+
Axle $700+
A-arms and shocks all round $4500+
Braided brake lines $100 +

theres $8000 to the normal rider already just to make a TRX 450 honda equivelent to a Can Am, Yamie, or KTM.
and thats not even getting into the little things like bumpers, steering stems, heel guards, handle bars etc etc.

also remember len that there are only a few pros in australia. nearly 100 of ATV buyers are not pros, and even if pros bought bikes they don't normally pay the full RRP.

I gotta agree with Roycroft there, and at the moment he's probably ridden the DS450X MX more that anyone else in Australia.
The MX is absolutely race ready.
Sure if you are one of the dozen or so top Pro's in the country, you might have a suspension expert specifically set up and tune your shocks for you... But you would not have to replace anything.
I've been thinking that for me to race this bike in Production would almost be cheating, it is a 'Pro bike' with a standard engine (and a good one at that) Smile
If you are in Clubman or Womens etc this bike will be an out of the box competative racer for around $12,000.
The engine is unchanged from the old X model.
I raced the same completely stock motor against a field of 15 Vets at the Vic states and won the championship (some of them were on $25,000+ bikes).
If you wan't to spend probably less than a grand on top of your $12000... I know quadsquad could fully set up the suspension and is getting great engine performance just by adding a high comp piston.
Then you're ready to start chasing those top 12 Pro riders around eek
That is scarey value for your race dollar.

Yeah, Agreed OZ. But remember a lot of the Pro riders have other sponsors, and obligations to run different equipment.
Many pro riders will swap out the standard shocks without even trying them.
Just maybe though... some of the new generation quads coming through might have better shocks than many aftermarket brands for 09.
