There is a Banshee in Vic that is 100hp and on his Vapour type speedo thingy... And it records top speeds, and his top speed is recored at 210 And its been set up correctly and was drag racing a SS comadore at the time. And the Vic guys know how "GOOD" this goes. _________________ 2005 KFX700

I think that the 86hp bike needs to make a a statement cause he is being thrashed.
Ouch i can feel that it HURTS! _________________ WAZ 450 NOW 535

One thing the yanks have over us here in OZ is the quality of the fuel that they can get wich in turn mean that they can run higher compression = HP _________________ Smitty |

there is a fair difference in the HP figures quoted when measured on an engine dyno vs chassis dyno. The final drive on a quad will rob a fair bit of HP by the time it goes through an O ring chain and drives an axle sitting in a big bearing carrier into 2 x 11inch wide tyres your probalby looking at a 10-15% loss in power.
I'm pretty sure that Mr Tomlins HP figures are measured on an engine dyno hence the higher claims than would be expected. _________________

It all depends on the dyno, the operator, the outcome they wish to achive if you want high HP figures use an inertia drum type and you will get high HP outcomes, use a dynamic brake/load type and you can create the peak power where you want, in which gear what load criteria etc. high HP figures have nothing to do with accelleration TORQUE is what makes for good drag racing, off corner performance, the sensation of speed you feel when you open the taps, HP will maintain the speed when resistance has been defeated (gravity, wind, traction) but dyno figures can be made to LIE it all depends on what result you want, on track performance is absolute, so let`s see how fast they go on the track whether drag racing (reaction time is critical to out come not high HP outputs) road racing (high corner speeds are critical to fast lap times) motocross (drive off turns is critical to fast laps ) but remember high rear wheel out puts if not controlled create wheelspin and that is the enemy of all fast times. _________________ we do not stop racing because we grow old

If you think your quad is the baddest, lets have a DYNO DAY and see what horsepower figures it actually puts out, i have speed racers that we use for dynoing, i will supply these tyres and rims to fit whatever quad you have.
The dyno is at HI COMP ENGINES in Minchinbury, lets organise a day and see if some of these bikes put out what they claim !!! |

Great Point But answer this if a bike that makes 86hp and a R1 makes 140hp in a banshee and they are both set up for drags and the 86hp bike wins does that mean that the dyno lies. _________________ Four Strokes BORE Me! |

Who Cares about the numbers if you cant get there first you can have 200hp.
But remeber this it dosent matter how you win as long as you win. _________________ WAZ 450 NOW 535

It all depends on traction , controlling wheelspin, reaction times.
It is not a matter of whether the dyno lies, if I try to put 140 hp to the ground through a 10 inch footprint and create wheelspin for the entire journey I LOOSE MOMENTUM, if I have 86HP through the same footprint and get no wheelspin I gain momentum, Drag racers who are serious about going fast with really big torque outputs use progressive clutches and when they talk about tuning to the track it is the clutch take up and not the engine they try to tune (the engine has a pre determined amount of torque/horsepower created by the engineering done in the workshop before the meeting ( this out put can be marginally altered by fuel ratio`s air temp and humidity but usually is predetermined) they do this to limit wheelspin or tyre shake as they like to call it, wheelspin anywhere but the burn out is the greatest enemy the drag racer faces, apart from red lights and slow reaction times _________________ we do not stop racing because we grow old

Man 10k you got ripped, wanna race me around a MX track all that engine and no suspension good luck because I wont throw 30ft roosts , ashpalt drag maybe , sand drag probably, supermoto maybe not, enduro I don`t think so, MX let`s go (because that`s what my bike is set up for ) bragging about horse power don`t mean "profanity removed" turn it into results so people can see/read about it, not how high you can throw a roost, if I had paddle tyres in sand I could probably throw a roost too, doesn`t appear to be that hard _________________ we do not stop racing because we grow old
