Hi,
Im looking to getting a new quad.
I have a 200cc chinese bike currently.
Could i please get some suggestions on what I should buy.
Im 15 and weigh 90kg.
and im on a bit of a budget

Whats "a bit of a budget" ??? $1000 or $5000......

Akzer as Linc said theres a huge range of bikes that can be bought out there on most budgets if you're happy to live with what your bucks can buy you.

Since you currently have a sporty type quad and you may want to go further down that path, you'll find much selection to be had.

A lot of guys I think will encourage you to buy the biggest bang for your buck. And at your age being 90kg you could probably handle a bigger bike in time.

But if you're experience is low I'd recommend getting the biggest "Small" bike you can and spend a year or two learning to ride that to 11/ 10ths of its ability and your and then you'll find the transition to more poweful bikes a lot easier as the laws of physics dont change.

Having said that Im currently looking a recreational ATV's and I'll propbably buy the biggest donk available, being of the older persuation and able to scare myself easier I feel I'll be able to display enough restraint to grow into the bike.

Just thoughts, at te end of the day its your green on the table.

i would recommend the suzuki z400 or kawasaki kfx400 (same bike) over the raptor 350. you should be able to pick up a nice second hand one for the same price

Both good bikesand I dont know of any reason you';d exclude the Honda400ex fro that at this point. These 400's have been around longer than the 450's, have a better after market range off the shelf and a good range of 2nd hand parts on the Shelf

(Write to a guy named Quad and ask him what 400 he's got the most parts for, dont just say which bike coz that'll be banshee!! N if you havent ridden two strokes I wouldnt roccomend the banshe as your first)

I just read your profile on your riding style and if you arent looking at straight MX eventing and are including desert racing/riding and other events, I can refer you to a guy on the forum Andrew from Austraco who is selling a Renegade 500, which if you dont know the bikes they're kinda like those eventing car 4wd's. Theyre 4wd, shaft drive and this one is a 500 so where the 800 is wearing out the identical CVT belt, so i believe the slightly less power will have less affect on this one. As Andrew will tell you he finished 3rd in his class first ride out with different shocks and exhaust so the oies on it now for sale are brand new!

Its only been ridden once to 3rd position in the Simpson race I believe, you'll have to ask Andrew http://www.ozatv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6626 and i gotta tell you if you are looking for anything sporty, 4wd, shafts so no chain problems, and do a desert race these are the only bikes to consider. If you ring Andrew and mention my name 'He'll talk turkey with you just remember its one race and 2/3rds the new price.

Now if you do want to so some MX racing theres no doubt you have to have a MX registerable bike. Theres a class for 200cc two stroke or 350cc max 4 stroke. My advice is to get on these bikes and learn to ride at 11/10th's.

Many guys are going to recommend you to go get you're 450 stright away and there is some fabulous 2nd hand units for budget in the for sale section. My concern is yoiu just coming of the chinese quad and not knowing you're other experience.

Either one of these classes is powerful enough to lay a world of hurt on you unless you get some MX training. Your local club or enthsiasts will help you out. Pick a guy with a good head on his shoulders and put a word in his ear. then your ear to his mouth like glue.

The difference between clas 1 and class 2 is in class 2 you are going to come up against the most seriously talented and fast riders in the land and you will have a bike capable of chasing them until the first set of whoops where you go to clear the lot at once and nose dive into the last one coz you dont have the experience causing yourself untold grief.

Given you're interests are a bit diversified can you narrow them down for yourself by making a couple of weekends of it to go anmd watch some racing or see an endurance event.

Lastly READ. everything you can get your eye's on here and in Magazines, Australia's own ATV action magazine ha just taken a step up in production values and could be a good investment pre-purchase, if you can take a little time.

Also you are buying at a great time of the year quad runout time at dealers, so downward preassure on prices is forced onto the rest of the market.

The world is your Oyster my friend. Theres a lot of classes of bike, I say first choose youre class, then aim at which bike.

mate i wouldnt bother looking at a 4stroke 350cc, taking into consideration your weight i dont think ud have a problems throwing 1 of the bigger bikes around so my opinion is At least a 400cc +. my wife had a warrior & u get sick of the performance real quick, dont get me wrong they r a fun bike but if u get good at it ull want more grunt...also taking in to the fact that your experience is low some will say go not 2 big but i started out on an old yamaha YFM200dc that was gutless (i could walk faster than that thing could in top gear) & went straight onto a 450r & was fine.....if u respect the performance in power & what they r capable of & dont get 2 frisky with the throttle until your ready 2 handle it u should b ok...but $$$$$$$ will b a big factor....good luck

Thanks heaps for the advice guys.
I just gotta get the money together so my budget is around a max of $3500. My experience has only been in backyards and also i have never tried racing.
A 400 or 450 sounds good. I would prefer a 4 stroke but i would consider a 2 stroke. I also need a way of keeping the exhaust quite once i get one.

I think the blokes that are pointing you at an older Suzi or Honda 400 is good advice.
If you do want to race though, you'll have to try a blaster or TRX300 (I think MrsGaiter on this forum mentioned she has a 300 for sale)???

$3,500 is one of those in-between numbers which could by you a bargain or lots of someone elses problems.
Be carefull when buying with that sort of money and take someone who knows quads pretty well with you.

Yer. i think z400 would be good, but a z400 at $3500, or any other 400, i dont know. I have a raptor 350 and it didnt take long to want more power.( 700 coming my way). Maybe save up for a bit longer and get your choise right the first time.
