selling my 2008 renegade 500 it has done the Thumpump300, one trail ride and a few laps round the paddock. Near new condition!
Has...
23 Hours
450KM
price is $8500 ONO new price is about $13,000
was raced with aftermarket shocks, pipe, handle bars and tyres and wheels so all the stock stuff is new.
selling to trade up to an 800 because the MA rules have changed (or are changing) to allow you to race an 800cc quad.
quad is stock besides the terracross tyres, kill switch and gripper seat cover.

Adz
As far as I understand all the articles Ive read the 500 is exactly the same as the 800 except for displacement.
Can Am have saved themselves huge dollars in terms of investment by not making any new parts or waiting for new assembly lines to be designed and come on stream by just adding the 500cc engine.
Article in latest dirt wheels on the 500 claimed the only difference between the 500, 650 and 800 engines is bore and stroke and that all other dimensions and components are same. So the savings have been carried all the way through to the engine.
So a 60% power upgrade is Heads, rods and cam(???) away.
My guess is Can Am were testing the market feeedback that they might have built a bike too much for someone to handle and also to cater for "lighter" riders not demanding and in fact scared of the 800s power but wanting the proprietary Can Am features.
Since they have gone for a 7% power increase to the 09 models I doubt they were worried about the too much power feedback from certain journo's. People are power mad and if they dropped a 1000cc donk in it sales would probably skyrocket!! (1000cc being the holy grail of road bikes for the last ten years, say especially in the sports naked class which riding a quad would be similar wind affect to, I would not be suprised to see 1000cc become the std in quads in the next 5 years)
But race regs have to keep up for the gade to be a sales success. Actual displacement is 499.6 (or similar figure I chcked) so you can enter under 500cc events.
I'll let Andrew PM you on sales stuff, its his bike after all , but I do know from talking to him shocks were $4000 worth and exhaust system was $1250. So basically to add on all the extra's you are asking is is the price of the bike again for free. Hmmmm.
Dirt Wheels gave it a big wrap and said it was a much more usable machine with a smoother popwer delivery particularly at first throttle, eliminating kangaroo hops.
As far as who to buy a second hand bike off, basically to a man will tell you you cant find more reputable guys, they've helped with hot-ups and accessories for most Vic bikes plus interstaters.
So you got the cash, you take it! My 5c worth anyway. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

| So basically a renegade 800 is a renegade 500 bored out another 300cc??? Then why would any one bother buying a 800 for so much more money when you can just put a big bore kit in the 500????? |

no its not a boed out motor, the bores are different and no doubt a few other enginge changes a long the way. This is a good quad, I've seen it in action. A very strong bike... _________________ 2005 KFX700

its a big bike, if your a big bloke you'll love it, these are a Vtwin, heaps of toruge and grunt, sound real throaty. See if a dealer in Qld will let you have demo ride, actually no, dont do that, you'll defentily want one. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Yogie is undoubtedly correct, these arent just bored heads and pistons theres a lot more horse power and so a lot of upgraded components to support that, better breathing and so on.
Thats just what I have seen claimed in a magazine, not the nuts and bolts of whats actually the difference, go to a technical forum for that.
These bikes are capablke of 100kmh clamed and who needs more than that cross country.
I wouldnt worry about the ride of the bike, but if you ae contact Andrew and see if he is headed for an event up north and he may bring it up for you or vice versa. But the reality is you are unless you are some really wierd dimension yourself you're looking at the the sit-up and beg position for comfort and enough room to slide down the seat to get low.
I cant vouch for their power. Can Am reckons their 500 = any 650 any day. You have to ask someone whose ridden it. Check American forums of you dont think you've got an unbiased opinion here. But poersonally I think that'll be heaps for anyone using the bike in its brief.
The 800 conversion I speak of I wouldnt be considering until I had to do a full rebuild of the egine and the engine may be built in sucha way that a full rebuild is required. Its just a speculation on my behalf so only worth what anyones opinion is.
I say buy it and you wont be dissappointed I think. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Andrew
What have your suppliers got luggage/ rack wise.
I have seen some samples on net of Rack clipped into std luggage clips, which I dont know if its a good thing or not?
If yopu wanted a hard rack would you just attch one off the grab rail or wouldnt you bother coz you've got som soft luggage to replace it you know of?

I've come to discover through the post on in general chat that you Big JB are just part of the sour grapes crew over Can Am handouts, doing anything and everything to try and defame Can Am and anyone who has one. Which seems to have devided a lot of senior riders who expect some handouts but how that affects you I dont know.
Tell you what when either of you w*&^kers finds a better piece of footage of a 500cc bike doing either the same slope better or a comparo of any bike beating the 500 head to head in its class at this kind of cross country post it, if not, go back to the girls toilets and have a cry with the rest.
Ridiculousness because some guys didnt get a "Can Am" grant. Well Austraco didnt either so go P!ss in your own pockets. |
WTF Gav? what r u on about? 1st point is a straight axle quad would do what that quad did in that footage, im just a trail rider & the last ride i went on we did climbs like that & yes my "straight axle" quad did it. 2nd point i want 2 make is ive got nothing against can-am...who said i did? , i know i didnt...! iv NEVER made a NEGATIVE post about any make or model of quad...period!! im not shy about expressing how i feel about the cheap crap quads but thats it. each 2 there own is how i look at it....simple as that ,so i reckon u have me confused with some1 else. & last thing is that your the only 1 who seems 2 b having a "cry" here.....read my post again, i just noted it was a crappy bit of footage thats all...if ud like go further with this feel free 2 PM me... _________________ 04 TRX 450r

Okay I watched it, redwood track, and Gentle annie looks harder than that... He should have ridden into the hollows, instead of trying go over them. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Im really truly sorry that I associated you with another post of which this particular logon that I mistook as yours was part of and it never should have happened.
I always say theres 3 parts to any apology thats worth its weight.
1/ So sorry with sincerity
2/ Make it up however possible
3/ Dont do it again.
So once again my complete and abject apology with humility especially as we had actually had some good PM's together.
As soon as you think my apology has been there long enough I will remove it. I'll edit out my other post immediately. Thanks to yogie as well and Im not sure youre posts will make any sense once I delete my crap, so sorry for that too. And apologies to Andrew for this screw up on his item. I'll also PM you an apology Big JB.
I have been trying to post less under the influence of drugs and will have a harder go at doing so. Kinda hard when thats 24/7 so maybe I'll just disappear back in my own back navel.
If there is anything further I can do publicly to let it be known that I have mistaken your identity, slandered you unfairly and generally made a w876ker of myself please let me know.

What 2 write geeman?! well im not going 2 make a fool out of u on a public forum (u mangaged 2 do that without any help from any1). im not the wisest man on earth but if were u id stay away from a keyboard when your popping pills & if your on heavy painkillers "24/7" as u say i have no idea y u would b looking at getting a quad, u could end up a real mess but once again (thats just my opinion)....i have nothing more 2 say about this _________________ 04 TRX 450r
