The above pics are of an email I received from the QDoC today. I urge all Qld quad riders to read the to reply to my email, it makes for interesting reading. 3 things spring to mind.
1. They never answered my original question i.e. "will quads be allowed at the facility".
2. I asked what was the point of conditional rego when every government dept seems to have a different interpretation of what is allowed and the fact the state government has just put it up! ** read the 3rd to last paragraph**
3. The 1st paragraph on page 2 gives all an open door to have our say and detail our likes and needs. Even if you are not interested or not planning to use the facility I urge ALL of you to take up the offer and write to Phil Reeves before May 14th and have your say. I would like to see all organisations and clubs to write too and detail the number of your members and list our/your opinions.
Thanks,

i think this is his email
phil.reeves@queenslandlabor.org
here is the jist of what i wrote to them
Hi, i just want to voice my concerns about the new Wyaralong dam site at Beaudesert first i want to make sure that planning has allowed for ATV/Quad bikes to enjoy the park just as much as the trail bikes that will be there. My wife and 3 children all ride quad bikes and we are sick of having to ride in illegal places just to have a day out with the kids on there quads. We are aware that Planning have allocated 30+ km of trails for trail bikes and want to make sure that we “Quad bike riders “ will be catered for as well as trail bikes. On a more personal note i hope the site won’t become just another motocross racing park as this takes the trails back out of the hands of family’s and with racing events it can be for days at a time. We are also hope that your trail planners are planning for pee wee riders and not just pee wee racers as our experience with motorbike parks in Queensland in the past has been that alot of the parks have been designed by motocross racers and they design them with very difficult trails and this does not suit “family days trail riding” we hope this is not the case
In closing my friends family’s and my own hope you intend to cater for family trail riding and not just a bunch of disgruntled motocross riders who had their parks closed |

Yes. It is about 6 or 700 hectares.
A lot of the land was resumed/purchased for a propsed dam. Err, that didn't work out. So now some use of it MAY be made for residents of the South East and travellers as a govt owned and privately run "ride park."
................................................................................................
The proposal has had some media releases but the final details are yet to be finalised. It's very early days yet. but the final decisions are to be made very soon.
I'll back the Jackal on this. If us quad riders don't let this MP, Phil Reeves know what we want, we're unlikely to get a look in.
And don't believe for one minute that the numerous places we're we've been riding and driving for so long, are still going to be available...... _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I have sent them a letter asking for them to preserve the rights of ATV and SXS owners to use the park.
Has anyone from QQRA sent them a letter, I think a letter from the Club will hold much more sway than inderviduals. Who is QQRA's El Presidente again??? (Sorry, I cant remember )

Thanks for that info gothev8.
Regardless of whether your a buggy, motorbiker, quad trail rider or MXer, every reply to the MP counts. The more the better.
People sitting on the sidelines and leaving it to the few vocal ones that care or hoping that some organisation will do it for them, we need your help. Sling Phil a letter or email the dept of Sport and Recreation.
That Dept and Phil are one of the very few Govt. groups that are on our side. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Is it possible to put up a "standard" letter on here that all the lazy bones can just put their name on and send it off to the guvment? The easier it is ,the more letters can be sent to add to our voice. I'm no geek, too hard for me.

Received this email in response to my submission:
Dear Mr Robertson
Thank you for your submission regarding the draft State Planning Regulatory Provisions: Motor Sport Activity Facility (trail bike) on state-owned land at Wyaralong.
As you are aware, the Queensland Government is seeking community and stakeholder views on the draft provisions to inform the development of a ‘best practice’ trail bike and motocross facility at Wyaralong. Submissions close on 14 May 2010 and following this all the submissions will be reviewed and analysed. Your submission is appreciated and your views will be considered before the State Planning Regulatory Provisions are finalised.
You will be advised of the outcomes of consultation on the draft provisions, once all submissions have been considered.

Hi all,
thanks to those of you who have taken the time to respond and send in correspondence. I'm onto my second letter. Please take the time to write now because after May 14th I will guarantee "they" will give us what they want and NOT what we need. Thanks to those who have included extra information about the process. We all appreciate it....

Ok change as you see fit ...
Dear Sir,
As part of the local riders & family’s and visitors intending to use the new park at Wyaralong dam.
i would like to ask if your planning department will plan to cater to family quad bike outings , Pee wee quad riders and professional quad bike racing and not just motor cross and trail bikes .
One of our main issues with park is “has proper provision has will be made for Pee wee quad riders and Pee Wee Trail bike riders to enjoy enduro trails” We find most pee wee motocross to dangerous for our children but we find enduro trails give them a chance to explore the bush with their family on their own bike in a more secure and family controlled environment.
Also i hope that the new camp sites will have power and will have adequate tethering to secure our valuable machinery at night, and of course a Kiosk selling ice and camping essentials.
A yearly usage fee would be totally acceptable with a daily fee for visiting travellers to cover some of the park operating costs.
Perhaps you could look at the park like a high impact ski resort such as perisher valley where they have volunteer patrols to curb unruly idiots from wrecking the days skiing in the beginners areas and attend to minor accidents around the resort in the case of the bike park they could monitor the motocross tracks and pee wee trails too.
In closing we hope that you and your planning dept will make adequate facilities for family’s to enjoy legal Quad bike riding in SE Queensland
Sincerely

HI,
Jed and I did a ADBA one day event at wyralong about 2 years ago. It was a great days riding with the main trail being about 25km and the junior/novice track was about 5km.
The terrain ranged from flats, undulating to hilly and a sandy creek crossing. There were some large rock outcrops which made for some excellent scenery and challenging trails.
There were about 20 quads on the saturday and the 2 wheelers rode on sunday.
QQRA is having a practise day at coolum on saturday so I will bring the matter of wyralong bike park up.
thanks scotty. _________________ 06 700 raptor 50th anniversary |

Dazz,
Great letter mate, I like the idea about volunteer patrols, that's what BDV needed, get rid of the idiots, police correct use of safety gear etc. Don’t forget about us SXS drivers though . _________________ 2012 Polaris RZR XP Turbo

I have sent a letter through to mr Reeves regarding Wyaralong dam issues and i am a member of the QQRA. just because people aien't posting in doesn't meen they are doing nothing I too recieved a similer email to that above from Mr Reeves assistant regarding the issue, so our voices are being heard whether or not they will be actioned on is another thing.
I will say though that the QQRA is a not for profit club that does it's best to promote and support the sport of quad bikes in Qld and it seems a shame that some people get on this forum and claim the club is doing nothing about these issues yet they don't even support the club by becoming a member!!! _________________ The main thing is to have fun I just think second place is no fun

NeKeleC i dont see the point in arguing here about who does what ...
what is important is that every one pitches in and just maybe we will have a great place to ride

I am right behind the QQRA and a current member, as is my family. I am definitely not implying that the QQRA does nothing; I was only suggesting the Club send in a letter, they may have already. I have enjoyed attending QQRA weekends at Manar and plan to do so again. I hope you haven’t misunderstood my posts above. _________________ 2012 Polaris RZR XP Turbo

i think a big hurdle here is a lot of people just sit on the side line thinking some one else will do it for them ... problem is ... if the numbers are not there then the planners will have a very dim view on planning for quad riders and will proberbly just disragard us .... on the other hand the trail bike clubs are thumping phil reeves with email and no doubt will get a nice big chunk of the action ....
has any one been able to verify if we even have the correct email address for phill reeves .... |
