Hey guys just wondering who takes jumper leads out with them when they go for a ride?

I was out a few weeks ago and was out a fare way and my bike struggled to start luckily it did. When we got back to the cars i stop the bike then went to start it again the battery was dead flat.

So who out there takes jumper leads. and are there special jumper leads for Quads?

Cheers Daz

I always carry a set of jumper leads in the car and the truck. But my bike has a back-up recoil starter which is a comfort with a CVT tranny.

Works fine. You just got to remember to pull it slowly until the automatic de-compression thingy does it's thing and then it's like starting a good lawn-mower.

When stored my quads are being charged/maintained with an Optimate III battery charger/maintainer. Never had an issue with batteries. My wife's '01 TRX250EX is on it's original battery and still going strong.

I made some 4mm leads (about 4 times as thick as speaker wire) and they work fine 99% of the time, if jump starting off of a running quad.
Keep in mind that 9 out of 10 times if your battery is flat when you are out... that it is normally only just not enough.
Dead flat... and you'll have to bring out the big guns Smile

I've been meaning for ages now to make a set of 4 or 6mm leads with male cig lighter ends, & fit 2 female cig lighter sockets to both my quads. Would then be easy way to jump start one from the other just unfurl leads, plug in & jump.

A lenght of 6mm twin sheath cable does the trick also and can be rolled up neat and small.

I made a set from car audio amp. wire about 1.5Mtrs long. You can buy it by the Mtr at most good auto outlets like Autopro, Repco etc Its very supple, comes in different colours (ie. red for POS. and black for NEG.) Mine are conected at one end to my battery terminals. I also kept mine seperate and wound them up individualy then tucked them in next to my battery. I have not even put clips on the ends, I just push the open ends down on the other battery. I have had to use them a couple of times now and every time they have worked a treat.
