ok guys and gals

have a question being as though i havnt run a water cooled bike or a bike with thermo fan
i have a 700xx and after a ride of say 30min and pushing fairly hard , then stopping should thermo fan come on when stopping .does key have to be on ?
i understand that thermostat is set to certain degrees in temp and will be auto-matic but if key is off will this still get electrics to it. if not is it worth rigging it up to do it without risk of flat battery.

cheers in advance

yes Tezz, the key does have to be on for the fan to work.

You can rig up an over-ride switch on a 700 by putting in a switch to bypass the sensor on the thermosat housing

thanks 700quad

i must admit i like this option better purely because i dont want to come back from ride withh 700xx and leave key on and forget about it , im sure it wont take long before battery will go flat and suppose wont have fans at all then

cheers

If the bike is switched of the thermo will only cool the water in the radiator, and your actual engine temp wil remain basically the same as the water isnt circulating.

so if you have been pushing it hard and your planning on stopping then just go easy for the last couple of minutes to allow the water temps in the whole system to stabilise and drop to there normal temp range.

cheers dangerman

good advice thanks and have done this dangman and must be cool enough as fan didnt come on .in my prado i have a turbo timer as to allow oil to flow through until cool , obviously runs without key.
it is funny you know at change over with the bike and maybe they assumed because i have had a quad before they run over the usual things , this how it starts , this is how you shift gears , this is were reverse is etc...
but no mention what oil , what coolant (how many people know never to mix different coolants together ) , thermo fans (leave key on ) .
just a lil winge but maybe more important things to be told at change over

cheers
