I am looking at having a crack at some of the bigger Enduro events over here next year like the Gas Dash and the Hyden Ironman, and maybe the Finke the following year depending on how we go. Does anyone have any training tips that will help improve my chances of finishing as many of the events as possible. Bit too late in life for me to be looking at a serious assault on the podium but would like to be able to make it through each event with my pride intact.

I am already on Yogie's special beer and chips diet but that only gets me to the first corner before I need a nap.

Just good old 'bike time'
and more of it leading up to the event.
And don't go too silly on the bike...
If you are not chasing the podium 'standard' machines offer good reliability.
Go for add ons that reduce fatigue...
Flexx Bars (blue elastomers)
Steering damper
that sort of stuff.

have fun Smile

i've always found that a similar regime to yogie's supports the best results for a relaxed and carefree career in quad racing/riding. the only variance in my routine is, i tend to wear a back pack rather than a camel back, as it gives me a secure location to store the winnie blues and a thermos of strong coffee. similarly, a small fold up fishing chair, readily available at Ray's outdoor outlets, can be carried in the right backpack, along with a small umbrella in case it rains.

i rarely divulge the secrets to my athletic success , so i hope you appreciate these tips

have fun

1 - Load quad in back of ute,
2 - Get on quad in back of ute
3 - Get a mate to drive you around the track laughing

Cheers

Don't listen to Losty's donut advice, but do listen to Lincraft.
Nutrition and fitness are big factors and obviously something Roycroft does really well.
I mean we all think he can't ride laughing but...
Backing up 3rd place in Finke these days is no easy task.

Ride your quad as much as you can and buddy up with someone to train with. It's too easy to find the easy way out when you train on your own.

Thanks guys, all great advice so far...beer, chips, cakehole, quad in back of car, coffee and winnie blues. I already subscribe to this training regime so in theory the #1 plate is within my grasp laughing laughing

Bullet and Mick, how much bike time do you guys put in normally and how much does that increase as the event approaches. My bike is pretty much set up as I like it even though I am still running the standard shocks, and I have a set of Flexx bars on the way.

I'd simply say the more the better.
But not enough to wear your bike out before the race Smile
And i should qualify that even riding a 2 wheeler, or the pushy to work is an advantage.
The things that attack you strength wise in a race are usually things like...
sore lower back, kneck from holding helmet up while leaning forward, and simply grip as far as hanging on and blisters goes.
So any training involing handlebars is good.

I find if i don't ride a quad for 2 weeks, that my first practice will feel a bit uncoordinted.
I'd say the ultimate would be going for a ride every second day, but riding every 3rd or 4th day is more realistic and keeps me very in tune with the bike.
Even if you only go for a put for 10 minutes on the in-between rides.
It just helps keep the hand / eye co-ordination sharp.

I think you'll get a lot of different answers on this, but,
a good weekend ride every weekend, and a little one after work during the week should 'hold' your level up.
A month before the event try to do a little ride on 2 or 3 week nights.

Ask QuadSquad about a thing called a moto-stick eek

Next year definitely mate, I'll need the year to prepare. Congrats on the second place on the weekend too. At least a couple of our Indee team got out and amongst it. A one two finish as well great stuff. Smile
