Some of Bullets comments are spot on. The only thing I disagree with is that if he doesn't comment and argue the point with some one like Husky.......or me.......then only one point of view will be presented. If you stop, he wins.

Bullet

Your opinion is never trivial - even if I disagree - please continue to express it; have courage in your convictions.

The cream will rise to the top. Don't let a vocal minority (or majority) stop you from presenting your opinion or questioning the accepted norm.

I think Husky raises a point - In the near future ill be in the market for a new quad, the ds450xmx was up there on the list.

I understand that not every quad is perfect, but if you know what the issues are with the quad you can do something about them before they become big $$$ and you regret buying that particular brand.

If that happens firstly you never buy that brand again and probably tell everyone you know that they are crap and to stay away from them.

It makes me think twice about what to spend my hard earned on. If there are issues with the ds450xmx why won't the people who know about them tell the general public about them? Isn't that this forum is (should be) about?

Once the issues are out, people like myself know what they are getting themselves into. A big issue for me might not be a big issue for someone else and vice versa. But at least you know before you start.

Hell, the people who know about any problems with the machine probably have already found a fix to it and if they care to share that info it would make the job of getting back out riding a whole lot faster/easier/cheaper/less frustrating and maybe even safer!

Trouble for good people like yourself OutlawBanshee is that people like Huskygoat always poison these sort of forums so badly that the real converations can not be aired publically.

Husky is just about the only reason that so many credible people do not comment on these forums (especially Can-Am people Smile )
Because he acts the way he does, people like me simply have to stay away.
I'm not saying that to big note myself and recognise that there are hundreds of other industry people with an abundence of info that would well and truely trump anything i might have to offer.
The point is we don't hear from any of them bcause of forum tossers who will always try to take them down.
In short all these great people would love to help, but just can't afford the risk.
Most top industry people will always advise "just stay away fom forums"
It's a real pitty that the poisoning industry minority exist, because forums like thse would otherwise be a fantastic tool for sharing way more information and gowig the sport in general.

Dickie sounds like he is spot on the money in relation to the Can-Am question.
Of course if anyone want's my trivial opinion on Can-Am, i am always available.
I bit my tounge initially, knowing that some tosser would surely have a crack.
Good on Dickie or having a go, but what do you know, he copped a tosser attack.
Everyone sees this, and they all say to themselves "yeah i'm sure glad i did not air my opinion".

Any other brand, and i'm happy to recommend someone else to help you, it's just that i am not an expert on many other models.
I help a lot of 'real people' and I'm well known to go into detail.
Those that know me would usually laugh and say yeah too much detail.
So maybe give Dickie a go instead laughing

Back to Clarkie... happy to help you any way i can Smile
Otherwise no further comment on this topic, 'on this foum'
Having said that, anyone in the gutless minority who would like to continue playing 'forum tough guy'... I would absolutely LOVE to talk to you face to face and the soonest available opportunity Smile please Smile

Hey Bullet thanks ... Nicely said, I am very careful on what i say ... What startd off as a joke with clarkie for me wanting to buy a grand Voyager a few months back .... lol

Now were at this ... In recent times I have enjoyed friendship with you and Mrs B and the rest of the can am Team... Even at Finke I was light heart jokes with Mrs B down the back of the field.

Q Why do you Can am guys get your girly nickers in Knots about problems with your quads???

Nobody else does ... Are they really that bad .... that you can't say to a guy who is interrested in Buying one ... OK the 08 model had this problem and this is how we fixed that.. Openly..and Publicly... secert squril stuff doesn't work Bullet.

If Your Employer is Can am ..... A spin on everything you say.

I Tell it the way it is ..... Oh how are sales going ??? Polaris increased by 1% last quarter and Can am dropped by 49% ..... Laughing Laughing Laughing

I dont know about the guy that crashed into a raptor 350 but Chris Howard and myself have both had nasty head on collisions at race pace( not with each other) and the DS did not stand up very well. Both of us ended up having to get new frames and unfortunately there was only one frame in Australia. So if you own a DS, avoid all front end accidents at all costs. They are light for a reason!

Clarkie I own a DS450 xmx and bought it despite all the negative hype on this forum as I took up Bullets offer to ride his to decide for myself. he threw me the keys and said ride it for as long as you want. I was sold after half an hour but he didnt get the keys back for about 5hrs. I have read countless hrs of forum posts on www.ds450hq.com and they are very informative but generally overload you with unnecessary info that only pro level riders need to know about. the only issue I have had is a faulty loom connector and that was covered by canam. Adam did my rear shock for me as it is a little lightly sprung for my svelt 90kg frame. other than that I have had no issues. you will get some stick from other riders but thats part of the deal I used to argue back no point now cos I'm happy. If you do come to Adelaide your welcome to take mine for a spin also just gimme a buzz

I don't know when the 2011 DS450's are coming out.
I have seen some very trick Outlander and SxS pics but nothing on the future DS.
I know there is more fine tuning on the 2011 model because they are talking about sending some components to us here in Australia for testing.

Can-Am are very serious about having the best product on the market and might be the only brand that actually listens to Australia for product developement.
We helped test the prototype radiator grills here a few years back.

So I would not expect the 2011's early in the year Smile

You just need to get a steel sprocket. The stock ones are alloy because they are light. The pro rider probably just gets the stock replacement ones from Can-Am.

The steel sprockets obviously last a lot longer, but the alloy ones are lighter.
So it's another performance trade off.
It does seem to be more of a problem in WA and maybe because they run a lot more sand tracks.
In 2008 in SA and other hard pack tracks around the country I ran the std alloy sprocket for nearly a whole season (at my level of racing).
Same again for 2009.
I’m still running the same 2009 bike and do a lot less racing this year, but in general I have raced since April 2008 on 3 rear sprockets and the last one might nearly see 2010 out.
So that’s a rear sprocket a year.
MrsB is harder on them than me because she lets them chew down into the sand when we are out sand dune riding.

They are soft, so Linc’s advise is good, run the stocky until it’s buggered, and then look at a steel replacement in what ever size you want, or even a Ti-moly sprocket, they are supposed to be near on indestructible, still light... but not so cheap up front.

If you buy the stickiest tyres you can, and start every race meet with a new set…
Then you might go for the lightweight alloy sprocket and replace that every 3rd race too.
Up to splitting hairs and how serious you might be.

I think their advertising says 'conditions apply' but i've never contacted them to find out what the conditions are.
Sill they'd have to be pretty dam good to even shoot their mouth off like that.
At the very least you'd expect them to last a lot longer than steel and be as light as ally (best of both words).
Someone will have to give them a go Smile

Ive seen a website where a guy said they got out of his warranty claim because he didnt use their lubricant and it wasnt stock gearing size. I believe the chains are guaranteed for a year.

The DS450 rear shock lower pivot bearings need maintenance from time to time.
Obviously this all depends on what sort of crap you ride in and how often you stick the steam cleaner in there.
Racers usually do enough maintenance to avoid getting crap in this lower bearing but ‘trailies’ might neglect it.
Simple to do, just a clean and a bit of grease.
Replacement seals from CBC Bearings (or similar) might be better than the standard non-spring lip seal.
CBC part number for the equivalent seal is TC12432 (they are a little bit harder to get in there but if you want to do less maintenance, they do seal better).
Leave the standard seals in the other pivots (all the same dinensions) and just grease them with a grease gun as you should Smile
