As i myself have written letters in the past to v-roads and had no replys and i've had a phone conversation and got a similar story to Yogie's "not ADR approved" well it cant be that hard to get ADR approval as all of these cheap nasty import bikes that are being flogged on ebay are somehow ADR approved.
So c'mon guys lets all get together and make it happen. Thats my 2 cents worth anyway. Cheers. |
I want to make it as clear as day, the dse have no issues with any REGISTERD VECHICLE IN THEIR FORRESTS, it never will be or never has been a issue, its furphy created by vicroads. But lets keep this debate and thread going please, no way out silly stuff, because you might be supprised who could read this... _________________ 2005 KFX700

Thats correct, they dont have an issue with registered vehicles but as per you letter on the previous page of this thread it states that the DSE has reiterated its position that it would not encourage the extension of registration to ATV's/quad bikes. Therefore we cant legally be in their forrests. This is the issue at hand that requires immediate action. Cheers. _________________ 07 KFX700

there are sections in the dse that dont want walkers in there, and I've heard that from upper management before, but they cant stop any rego'd vechilce in there, not now, maybe one day But Vicroads makes their descision for them selves, make no mistake about that. _________________ 2005 KFX700

dont know if I'm driving the ship, hope its not the titanic... but once attitude start to change, then so will our stakes in the bush. But we need a single voice and bloody loud one at that, and sooner rather than later we'll get that too I think. _________________ 2005 KFX700

We should start by having a meeting with one of the big brass at v-roads rather than letters and phone calls. If we get no satifaction out of that perhaps try our local members of parliment to push the point, again if we see no results we should probably play the discrimination card as a last resort. Or just form a club and apply for club permits which would limit us to when and where we can ride.
If someone could supply me with a name of a suitable person to arrange a meeting with at v-roads i will personally go to v-roads head office and give it a crack. Also if anyone has ideas how to attack the meeting and valid arguments to put forward please let me know. Cheers. _________________ 07 KFX700

Whilst I agree, it's not helpful.
I'd suggest that the numbers of people who ride trails X what they spend would benifit tourism and the economy, that would also apply to income from the rego system, the demographics of the group, the social, enviromental and physical advantages of organised group rides might display a RESPONSIBLE attitude of the trail riding community mounted on quads would all be valid points to the cause.
I'd also suggest that a group supported presentation to the minister responsible would go a lot further than trying to deal with dunderhead public servants. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

This is how I read it too - the DSE DOES have an issue. That letter that is posted in this thread says as much doesnt it?
Is it not easier to push the DFSE into action (as a way to reduce the stats on illegal riding) so that they push Vicroads?
The legal issue is that technically the DFSE can legalise quad use now without Vicoads by virtue of the free access law.
YOu dont need adr to ride in the bush - you dont technically need rego if the DFSE made free access areas.
Do you agree or am I taking the long way to the goal? |

Wether or not DSE can open areas of free access , to me is not our problem, the bush is being locked up at alarming rate, just ask the two wheeler guys and 4x4's they will tell you this, and in Particular the single trail isse which we'll save for another year...
but my point is once there is a reconised form of registration availible to ATV's then we wil have the same rights as two wheelers and 4x4's, and that for me is my beef with Vicroads and this system of theirs. And with the ADR's that is why Vicroads wont give us rego, and there are ways around the non adr compliance but that system is complicted and open to interpretation at different Vicroad offices around Vic. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Have written to Vic Roads about the proliferation of PTV (personal transport vehicles) similar to motorbikes but usually involves 3-4 wheels and as wide as a motorbike.
Benefits to the environment and to traffic and increasing trend world wide.
How when where and what reg because they will never meet car compliance yet many of the systems are dependant on 4 wheels to operate. And then how are people going to get home when their driveway id 25kms of dirt muddy rd?
Expect nothing out of it but to keep a rolling set of questions rolling in the door of Vic Roads. But having said Personal Transport Vehicles probably represent an overall bigger issue for Australian roads and there-fore may gain us a unexpected loophole. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

here's what a DSE trailbike officer has told me over at DBW, any track that shows up on a map or google earth for that matter is a gazzetted road and there fore under Vicraods control, so there comes back to my point about rego and further to that if ANY vechilce leaves a track by about 1 metre and there fore is now creating single trail which regardless what rego you have you are breaking the law, and then DSE can issue you with a summons or an on the spot fine. Now a DSE officer can walk up to you if thinks you have ridden Single trail and ask for your details, but if you are sitting on the side of a track/dirt road with no rego or helmets or anything for that matter and a DSE officer can ask you any thing he wants but you DO NOT have to answer but if a copper see's you in the same situation well, we all know what we have to do there in regards to that.
there was a certain trail ride earlier on this year and certain riders were found in a gated section along with about a dozen 4wd and this DSE was not a officer but a worker and he had the option to take our photos and any rego plate details that he wanted to, but the question should have asked why was he there also ? its a very grey area and now some can and most likly will, say all this a load of crap I'm speaking but this was told to me by the user name envirorider at DBW. _________________ 2005 KFX700
