sorry guys i know this is not a quad question but i know there is so very helpful people on this forum.

My friend has a old kdx 200 87 model and when ever he cranks it over it leaks fuel from the exhaust outlet or header where it meets the head.

Pretty sure its low on compression so would this bet due to top end pooing itself and leaking fuel passed piston and out exhaust??

I'm a mad quad lover and not some one time forum poster.
any help much appreciated.

Might check the fuel lines then check fuel system i think there is no connection between the fuel system and headers.

most probable causes ,a) needle and seat in carby and or fuel tap leaking whilst not in use therefore filling the crankcase up with fuel.
b) too much oil.
c) crankshaft seals worn and sucking gearbox oil into clyinder.
d) simply a bad header pipe to exhaust port seal.
e) none of the above.... Rolls eyes

what general condition is the engine in? does it still go hard?

it could be any number of things, but most likely you dont ride it hard enough and use too much oil in your premix, or the o-ring is perished/broken/gone etc in the pipe to barrel joint.

firstly its my neighbours bike but regardless it in average condition.

It used to leak from the carb and other areas so i offered to help out.

1. I clean out the carby, jets everything etc.

2. We instal the carb and no more leaks (well carby stopped anyway)

3. He was kicking it over and i noticed fuel coming out from cylinder/exhaust area..

hmm

So i took off the header pipe off ,a fmf fatty gold series being 2 stroke.
and about 500ml or more fuel was sitting in the header.

reinstalled the header.

Took out the spark plug and kicked over to see something and it has lots of fuel on top of piston.
Why so much.

There seems to be a lot of fuel getting in.
I think i'll check the reeds and carby again.
until then will keep you posted.

Doesnt seem like a lot of compression either.
so probably a good reason to take head off.

Sounds like the needles stuck open and filling the crankcase and when u kick it over it transfers to the top of the piston, seperate the carb off the intake, leave everything else connected and turn the fuel on and see if the carb floods fuel out of it.

checked the needle and seat. It appears to have a indent or score around it where it seats.
This is the type without the rubber point but point metal tip.
The seat also had a small piece of the oring missing.
So i will buy a new needle and seat kit on tuesday.

Thanks again guy will let you know how it goes.

I'm still amazed how a little scratch or score on the needle affects in a big way!
Gave me a good chance to go over his bike and check everything.
