Wiggo what part of Townsville will u be in? - There isn't that much racing in townsville - about 4 local mx events per year and about 6 dirt track events. There is a push to get some happening further north on the tablelands - about 4 hours north. The Central Highlands series is the established series in the area, 5 rounds, 4 heats per round. But is about 6 hours from townsville (Inland from Mackay). The richmond river run is a fun event check out brads post in the events section, but again its about 4 hours inland from Townsville. There isn't many places to social ride in Townsville anymore, but there are about 3 or so small places that you can still go and dodge the 4x4's, unless you know someone with private property. There are more places to social ride out of town but you gotta head far out of town!
But still - bring the quads, or you will get withdrawals

I rememer when i lived in Townsville as a kid i could push my motorbike across the weir wall at weir state school (riverpark) and ride in the council ride park there at anandale where the new hospital is, and i used to ride my mini bike on the salt pans there opposite the show grounds where the radio stations etc now are. I left there 6 years ago and don't miss the place one bit.
Wiggo mate I feel sorry for you having to move there, motorbike racing died there about 12 years ago cause the townsville mx club commitee couldn't get it together so everyone lost interest, real shame actually as we had some awesome venues to race at all within 1 hour of the town, places owned by local mx racers who got fed up with the club committees of that time and it never got back off the ground.
As Outlaw said Townsville is a motorbike wasteland it'll spend more time rusting than running, sorry i grew up there and you coldn't pay me to go back. _________________ The main thing is to have fun I just think second place is no fun

Sorry NeKeleC , dont want to pick a fight , but thats a bit harsh , dont you think , i have been in Townsville from the early eightys , and remember riding across the black weir , the uni tracks were great , as was the flats where the lake is now . but i think it would be the same story any where in regional aust , most open land close to tow is built out . As for racing , there is plenty for 2 wheels , just not so much for 4 at the moment , so we need more positive people to get involved . as for social riding there is , the Bohle , Keilbottom crk , Black river , Bluewater range , Clements Forrest , ollera Crk all within 45 min north of town and Aims , and the burdekin area to the south , not all the best stuff but somewhere to ride at least .
Please dont think this is a personal attack , i love living here and think the town and the region has a lot going for it . |
