HI all, yes a new member I live in the Blackwood Valley area of WA's South West
I am new to quads, well new to bikes period
Anyway I have started looking at getting a couple of quads for our small property (43 acres) and I am really at a loss of where I should start and what I should be looking at.
The first bike we want to use as a farm bike to do the small jobs around the farm, like have a small trailer on the back and take around the property fences and fix the fences, carry the chainsaw and maybe even use to pull a mower/shredder and other small farm implements. I am not expecting it to get to heavy a use but not sure yet.
The second if for the kids, more fun than anything else, they are aged between 9 and 14. Doe snot have to be anything over the top just something a bit of fun to use on the farm property. No competition work.
Reliability of course is required, I'd hate to have something that keeps breaking down, I am also pretty handy with a tool so could service most myself.
I have looked at various makes and models and well to be honest I was taken back by the high prices for a full size quad, as well as the smaller ones. Brands I have looked at most are Honda and Polaris but a few others as well. At the prices they have been (new and used) I might just give it a miss or only get the one.
However I recently came across what I suspect might be a case of 'you get what you pay', but at the same time these could just be new on the market and are priced to enter the market but would be sufficient. They are full imports (what is not these days), with the first one being a Storm300 at only $3000 new http://www.ezpower.com.au/bike%20details/storm300.html (and no I have no connection with these people - this is not spam) and wondered if anyone knows about these quads and if they are in fact good enough or suitable for what I am planning to use them for. The weight capacity seems quite good when compared to a Polaris so that was a plus.
So anyway be kind, give me your thoughts and help me get a couple of quads
Cheers _________________ If you don't ask.... |

| hey mate welcome to bikes/quads, not too sure on the farm side of quads but a good reliable fun bike for the kids , take a look at the yamaha raptor 250, not too big to scare the pants of them but enough power for you to have some fun too. steer clear of any chinese imports or though there is a bloke on here who owns a cfmoto500 farm bike and swears buy it. i try and find him and let you know his id on the forum. |

Thanks guys, I have already had a PM and chat with Dino who has helped out with a few of my queries.
My main issue as I explained to Dino is expense. Getting the cheaper chinese/taiwan quads new will set me back around $4500- $5000 for two. What could I expect to get for that price second hand knowing I need one of them to be used as a farm tool as well, so that will be the bulk of the price/buy and the second a smaller quad for the kids fun.
My main concern with the Storm300 and other chinese/taiwan quads is the rear suspension not being independent, but since it will not be used for racing and all is this such a big issue? I don;t know as said new to quads.
I am also of the view that even the so called better brand names have many of their components also built in china and Taiwan, so the question is what really is the difference. Quality control is fine and all but how much better is one over the other, is it really worth the 3 or 4 times the price?
I guess I need to know what I can get for around the 4000 to 4500 price mark (remember I want two) and then I can decide what is the better way to go.
And yes I know if I spend more and get a better brand etc it 'may' last long, but the extra money is just not there. _________________ If you don't ask.... |
