Are these permits available for young riders at stockton or are you required to hold a current drivers license.Do you need to have a NSW drivers license and address.
Any advise appreciated.

Paddles area a must. Permit isnt, its a risk if u want to take it. You can camp in alot of places as long as you get there first so it doesnt get packed. And polarised glasses.

I read somewhere that you have to be a NSW resident to get a permit, can anyone confirm this ?

rylz11, I would not say paddles are a must, none of my mates ride with em, although we have pretty chunky mx tires...
We can combat 99% of any of the dunes....
We are all on yfz's and raptors....
Camping is pretty easy and there are a few spots in the bush and tonnes of room along the beach areas and the beach forefront...

I'd have to disagree on the paddles thing Pit Bull.. I've ridden up there heaps of times with out paddles and had a bloody good time while i was at it too.

2001 Raptor, no paddles, pages hill was the only hill that stopped it, a metre from the top I might add.

2004 YFZ, no paddles, no hill stopped it, even beat a paddle equiped 400cc banshee in multiple drags.

1987 Tecate 3 wheeler, no paddles, point it at any hill no worries.

Hay rylz11

I go up there all the time and i have only seen the ranger about 4 times and never been pulled up.
But its peice of mind that you are reg and you cant get into trouble.

With the paddles you dont need them i have a banshee and i get up about 95% of the hill climbs and 4 of my mates are the same and we get up there fine.
Camping is not to bad i stayed there with 5 mates for 3 nights in the bush land it was to windy on the beach during the night.
All up a grat place to ride and camp for a weekend. Razz

Ive got rego and a permit.

The permit, available from the servo at the entrance to lavis lane, is purchased from the National Parks and Wildlife that the rangers work for. So really, his main concern is wether you have a permit or not, therefore if you had a permit and he pulled you over and asked for your rego you could tell him to mind his own business. Permits are about $10 for the day or $40ish for the year.

The rego is from the NSW RTA so it may be a problem for other states. The people here at the RTA dont know whats going on anyway. The cops are the ones who Police this, i have seen one cop in 10years. An ATC250R costs roughly $165 per year. Over 250cc costs more. About $14 of this is actual rego, the rest is 3rd party insurance incase you run over a nude couple going at it some where in the big dunes. So i guess it is some piece of mind.

Paddles depend on where you ride at stockton. There are pelnty of places to ride without them. I use them but the key is go up steep bits fast!

hey just looking at the other link with the rego permits and guys are saying that all they needed was the beach permits or what ever for the CTP on the beach? if this is the case why do you supposodly have to pay $400 a year at the rta for what appears to be the same thing? i cant see the $30 a year permit covereing you for CTP! i think that $30 pass is only to allow you onto the beach like the 4WD isnt it? i dunno im confused!

cost me about 20 bucks last time and you are covered for your CTP, usually able to get them for up to a week or so

good luck getting conditional rego, i got my kingquad done & it was a pian in the, rear. they didnt have a listing for a LTA 700 only the LTA 500. the people at the rta dont have a clue what u are talking about & dont like being told what to look for & to do. just be nice & polite no matter the attitude of the customer service person. Mine only cost aound $160 for the year. then my bro & friends got their grizzlies done at different rta depots & all of them were charged different rates & all have different condition codes on the papers. our friends that are farmers were told that they couldnt get conditional farm rego & stockton rego together at the same time. and the cooma rta flatout refused to register it at all because they might ride on the road....... that is what farm rego is for. to allow them to cross roads etc legally while shifting cattle etc. pretty crap , considering how much effort we have gone through to get a farmer to even wear a helmet & have the proper rego so they dont get booked by the local cop. this sort of garbage is what u have to put up with. any how back to the topic, we were charged between $ 160 - $350 for 1 year rego, all with differing conditions all with differing model numbers.

There is one guy at the Newcastle RTA who knows all about it. Easy to spot, tall bloke, late 20s ish, long mullet in a pony tail with a filthy under cut. you wont miss him. If you get someone else there, they just ask him anyway. He spends a bit of time at stockton himself so he's on to it.
