Here are the results of the latest S.A.E testing for motorcycle oils. I only copied some of the areas that I understood, and the overall results from all the testing. You can read, you can decide. If the members feel that this is a helpful post, then maybe the mods will pin it.

IT WAS SPONSORED BY AMSOIL........seen this test before and the results, have also seen different tests with different results.

IMO stick to what you know.

It's just good marketing from Amsoil.

I'm not changing from Bel-Ray & Yamalube because of this.

As long as you have a good quality oil that meets your manufacturers specifications and service it accordingly you will be fine.

Three things I look for in an oil.
1. Supply. I like to use the same oil in my vehicles. The reseller needs to carry this oil all the time. Readfords in Dubbo carry both Bel-Ray and Yamalube.
2. Price. I'm not cheap, but I'm not spending a fortune on oil.
3. Meets my vehicle manufacturers specs.

I have used motul and yamalube in the past, but just ordered some Amsoil, $76 for 3.7 litres.
Looking at most of the American ATV sites/forums, This oil does quite well, can only try it i suppose.

does look very much like marketing propaganda.... Iv'e seen a lot of supposed oil data, every brand has something like it, that is of course very favorable to the brand.....

Don't misunderstand me, it's probably a great oil. I just wouldn't change brands because of this specific test.

My grandad used K-mart then went to Wal-Mart brand oil in his trucks (pickup). He would get >200k miles before they shat themselves. The key is changing the oil regularly. These pickups weren't unbeatable Toyota's, they were North American made.

i just have one question to ask in relation to oils. in the past i was into my high performance v8s , and noted alot about oil viscosity and and so on,
i dont know if you remember or not but when the gen 3 v8 came out there was a lot of problems with oil pressure and this was killing some motors with less than 50000 kms on them , i know this because my boss had 3 engines put in under warranty.
ok my point is these engines were designed and manufactured in the USA , which has different climate and conditions to us here in australia, so there for i feel we should only stick to what we know works in australian conditions.
this is also why the gen 3 motors packed it in over here, when you buy a gen 3 holden v8 you are told its only covered under warranty if you use mobil 1, and this is where the problem started.
my boss after his third engine checked his oil once again and realised it needed topping up. he had no mobil 1, all he had was plain old aussie 20 /50 oil. problem solved, no engine problems ever again, and the motor is still fine.
it might not be the case with this oil, but i would be wary

I am told the problem with the LS-1(apart from being a chevy) was the oil pick ups,faulty from the USA.

that me be the case as well , but once my boss found this out , as we deal with Hrt and other major players in holden aswell, they were very eager to find out for them selves, but this may be adifferent scenario for other people, but in his case it was all about oil pressure, he had none or was very low. when he put a thicker aussie oil in ,it gained oil pressure and never smoked when he started it up.

It shouldn't be a problem that we have different conditions than the USA. Personally, I don't believe we do.

We have regions that have snow in winter and we have regions that have constant high temperatures. The USA has the same, only they get colder when it's cold, but they also have areas that get just as hot as our hottest areas (like Cloncurry, or Marble Bar).

It's more the point that in North Amerca they are more up with changing oils to suit the climate as it changes throughout the year.

The chev engine in the crumbledoor is a problem child.

I have been using amsoil in my quads for 5 years now. I have never had an issue what so ever even when i forgot to refill my bike and i did a couple of laps around my back yard. I shut it of as soon as i remembered and no harm was done. you can get it from hear.
