I have heard horror stories about A/C problems that cost thousands to fix...
Some of these have the same auto trans as a 2.0 Neon... Again not a great thing..

Buy a Toyota Tarago ACR30... 00-06

Dont contemplate buying a Kia Carnival.... they are worse... much worse..

Much Much Worse.

Yep only a 2.4 Camry motor in the 30s... working pretty hard.

Dont buy a WA Starwagon either... Engines for Taragos can be found in 5 minutes... WA's can take days or weeks

Have you thought about a Tarago V6...

What about a Territory.. I have heard of some problems with the front end though.

With the Kia's I thought the earlier model had problems with going bang but the older one was good. One of my mates' mum has one and it goes really well. His dad got 190km/h and ran out of road. So they would have the balls to tow a decent trailer. Pretty comfortable too.

Yes I thought about the v6 in the Tarago ( you can buy front cuts out of the gold coast) that would like riding a Can am .. If it breaks down nobody would want to fix it and parts $$$$ and parts would have to come from O/S

Whats a Territory?

A mate of mine who owns a 4m40 powered Pajero even admits its only a matter of time before it expires. Mitsubishi Diesels can be a little delicate..... So that makes the Delica worse than an Aus delivered WA L300...

and you have the added bonus of some parts which arent available locally for love nor money... A lot of Dismantlers wont touch Grey imports... Would be worse in the vicinity of the black stump... Same goes for the Nissan el grande... Parts availability on any grey import (IE cars bought into Australia by companies/persons other than the maker).. is always pretty ordinary.. Might be OK in Sydney where there are a few importers, but throw a driveshaft 3 miles out of Bourke and you may be there for a while...

Ford Territory... 100 series cruiser.. or 4.2 turbo Diesel GU Patrol.. (Dont buy a 3.0 TD they are junk.).

The new 3.0 Patrol with Common Rail Injection are fine.
There are more bullsh!t stories going around about the ZD30 motors than there are quad bikes in this country. I've been on the 4WD forums for years, and yeah, a couple of engines blew up, but nowhere near as many as some people would like you to believe.

Just like all the stories came out about how bad the 100 series cruiser was when it was first released, and the all the stories about the 200 series when it was released. 99.9% crap 0.1% truth

if your talking about the early non turbo 4m40 engine then yea i agree totaly. the later model 4m40t motors were a different block, and not interchangeable with the early ones.

from what ive read 98% of parts are interchangeable between certain model tritons pajeros and the delica.
as the delica uses a triton chassis / suspension with a van body thrown on top.

lot more parts for them around then a teritory, not to mention its $25k cheeper, and useful as a 4x4.

hey husky just buy a OKA... job done.

also there must be hundreds of delica wicked vans in the teritory at any one time, full of sweedish backpackers.
just pilfer any bits from them while there sleeping.

i disagree. the ZD30's are "profanity removed". once the MAF fails they overboost and crack pistons and heads and you dont even know its happening.

in the last month ive done 3 R&R's to these patrols with this motor, all of them crack the heads and pistons and 2 of them even spun big ends. these are unfriendly motors to work on. all 3 of these cars are less then 7 years old and none of them had over 200000km's. personally i would expect more from a diesel before it exploded.

personally i think that its an overstressed motor in a car that is too large and then people expect to tow 6.5m boats and caravans with them eek
i cant comment on the newer common rail motors but i dont see them being any better.

Folks the best van out there at the moment is the Hyundai ILoad I have had heaps of vans for work and the Hyundai wins hands down you can fit to full size pallets in the back and you can also order them with barn doors. I have the turbo diesel and it hauls like a Mack truck and goes link stink excellent value for money and also comes with a 5 year 100,00km warranty. Not to mention it is rear wheel drive and also tows well.
