PostPosted: Tue Mar 02, 2010 6:32 am Post subject: A stack of new updates on Thumbpump.com Reply with quote Back to top

It's hard to belive that we have been online for a month already, it only feels like yesterday that the site was launched but her we are. The MX season is now under way and the first major event for the year, Round 1 the QRCV's Tri State Series in on this weekend and the beginning of the big off road events are just weeks away with the Condo 750 and Thumbpump 300 coming up in April so it is all go around Thumbpump.com HQ getting prepared to head to these events.

Every month we are planning to have a major content update like this, with maybe a few liitle ones in between if we have time, and as the site grows the updates will get bigger and better but we need you guys and girls to spread the word and tell all you quad riding friends about us. You can also follow Thumbpump.com on Facebook if you are into that sort of thing, we will be letting all our Facebook friends know about new content as we post it.

So enough waffle, here is what is new for this month......

In the ATV Features Section we have an article from this opinionated sort of fella I've come to know over the years from my racing connections, he goes by the name of El Capitano Sharpie or just Sharpie for short and while he may have some strong opinions he also has some good points to make so we've given him a go here with his first artice being part one of a two part story called Sponsorship and the art of getting free stuff

Also in the ATV Features section is a story for anyone who want to get into MX racing which is the first in a series of similar stories about getting involved in various racing disciplines and one off events. And speaking of one off events there is also a piece on the Australasian Safari in the events category and we will be keeping you posted on all the Safari action in the lead up to the event with Thumbpump.com crew being involved in more than one Safari Quad build.

There are some promo video clips that Mick has done for Can Am over the last couple of years that feature some well known Aussie riders with some spectacular stuff from Smitty and Bullet, particularly on the Renegade Video and a spectacular crash by Mick Roycroft on the DS450X Video and something which you don't often see in a 47 Clip which is a very practical use of a winch in the Outlander Video. All three videos are availble to watch in the Promo Videos category.

Also in the Video section we have an interview with one of the top ATV Speedway racers in SA, Dr Z aka James Kolecki as well as part 2 of 12 of the Thumbpump adventure series video Quads to the Cape and also part 2 of 8 of the antics of one Darrell Knight as he attempts to do the Finke Desert race on a TRX90 in One Crazy Jumbo.....

So there it is folks, the March update of Thumbpump.com, don't forget that our own offroad events the Thumbpump 300 and Highbeam 100 are on next month so get your entries in for a great weekend of enduro racing. Entry forms are available in the multimedia/dowloads category.

The guys at Thumbpump have not only talked about doing something to the benefit of our community, they have actually gone and done it..........something you cannot claim. Instead of grand standing or shooting down anyone else, how about you contribute?.......start to walk the walk big mouth.

I congratulate Mick47 and his Thumbpump crew for attempting to make a truely informing web site. The only thing OZ ATV has going for it is the number of people on it.

It is a pain to post pictures here and has never been updated despite requests and prommises.

When people realise the advantages to useing thumbpump.com it will get bigger and better. To me the advantage is being able to post pics from my computer and the people that are available to answer my questions.

1 correct answer there beats 20 opinions or striaght up wrong answers here.

That's a bit of a general statement isn't it. I find that this forum has good information for all types of riders on all types of machines. Not all of us are racers or want to race. Most of the information on the thumbpump site seems geared toward competitve riding, even Mick's updates mention racing in each one. I belong to a number of sites and to be quite honest, if you want a good laugh sometimes, a bit of social interaction, and some handy tips or a bargain, you can't go past OZATV.com. Posting pics is easy. It's exactly the same process on a number of other forums too.

agreed......didn't mean to denigrate any one. The point being the correct answer doesn't have to be on the biggest site. Everyone is welcome & respected on both sites as I see it.

Thumbpump is owned, made and for quad riders.........all of them. Certainly not just racers.

I do get a bit miffed with Husky as he has it in for Mick47 and has for a while; it doesn't matter what he does Husky doesn't like it.

I think mick is big and ugly enough to look after himself. Laughing

But this site is the place to discus this, even when we get a little heated, but this THREAD is not the place for it. Its for infomation only.

No it's not.......it's not owned by a quad rider, it wasn't started for quad riders. It exists to benefit a business man and his internet business that needs the traffic this site generates to boost his other clients. We are being used. I don't begrudge him for it, but don't talk crap to me.

So if you don't like this site that much linc don't post here !!! I don't think anybody gonna care much .

Now we are getting used lol so what are you gonna be over there????

Advertising on Ozatv site would only cover costs of running it ... I don't think the owner on Ozatv wants to make his 7th million out of it ..lol

you are spot on there, but we, us, and you are much bigger than his traffic numbers, and yes he's in it for $$$ but who cares, thats why I go to work, for a $$$. Mind you it would be good if jazzed this up a bit. Very Happy

Guy's, OZATV is and will probably always be the biggest ATV specific forum we have, which is why I frequent it as well. We have set up thumbpump.com as an e-magazine because as a quad riding community, we didn't have one. The thumbpump.com forum is there as a small part of this site because we have set up rider pages. This is all in forum type format so it made sense to drop the forum parts in too. There are a few things that OZATV members have been asking for, for quite some time now, and we have included these to try and encourage the same features here. With any luck, Patrick will now see that these updates are needed (like being able to upload pics) and upgrade OZATV. We are not in competition with OZATV....PERIOD.
We are just trying to offer the community something they didn't have, for free. Yes we are looking for banner advertisers, but that is not you guy's, it is the commercial companies that advertise in our community. Petey has put hundreds of hours into building the site and I would like to think that he can be somehow rewarded for that. So use thumbpump.com, don't use it, it is up to you, but it is free and it is there. Up to you.
Mick@47

Just to re-enforce Micks post a bit, yes it is commercial but because it needs to be, just like the ATVA Mag is, we wouldn't have a magazine if it wasn't and thumbpump.com is the same to a certain extent but it is significantly cheaper to produce, there is only so much content that can be created for free, a lot of it takes significant amounts of time to produce (quite unlike a forum where, mind you there is no actual content just discussion)......

Anyone who knows me knows that I do personally put quite a lot of time into the industry for nothing other than to help it grow, I have administered the QRCV site for the past 6 years and have sat on the clubs committee for that same amount of time not to mention the amount of time that I have put into helping a number of riders to further their racing careers ahead of my own riding. Wink

Aaron, I'm all for suggestions on some non-racing stuff, I will be making an effort to get to some of the Vic trail riding events this year and doing some more stuff that is aimed more generally at riders rather than racers it's just that at the moment while we are getting up and running racing is what I have more access to so it is easier to write about. If there is anything anyone wants to see covered on the site feel free to let us know either on here or on tp.coms forum or even by direct email if you want via pete@thumbpump.com

Thanks Pete, the new site looks awesome. Yes you have to start somewhere. At the end of the day, this forum is what it is. Most of us will get the technical advise we need from the other brand or model specific forums we belong to. What brings me back to OZATV though is that it has a community feel to it despite our difference in brands, opinions, and how we utilise our machines. If you guys can get that right over there plus all the other stuff you currently have, then you'll be laughing.
