Would Buggy, UTV and SUV owners like to form a club for recreation or further development?
The intention I guess being to have like minded people turn up in the one spot once a year or more to be social, show and show-off, ride together and enjoy our machines together.
Events to start with could be and remain purely social but if people want to network to form teams etc for say Finke or WA or whatever at least the right people to speak to are in a club to get in contact with.
I'd suggest a fairly low cost event like Sandfest as our first meeting at the Corner? or NSW, Vic and SA.
Please post your details and ride (your ride) as we as vote so we know who's being a donkey and how unfortunate people would like to be.
Cheers

Well - I am finially getting to pick up my Rhino today - sorry not a polaris - and would be interested in some social riding.
For now it is stock, but have ordered some goodie from the US which should be here in a couple of weeks (hoping) which should change it a little....................
Anyway - I live in Gladstone Queensland and don't mind to travel. |

Gday Doug,
few responders yet so we will keep working on a group, maybe we'll collect a mailing list?
But definately start posting some of our rides will be a big start the more you poke it in people faces the more will come.
So my suggestion for Sandfest is maybe out this year, but there are trail rides in Cape, NSW and Tas that I know the details of so far and I think another one popped up in the "rides" forum yesrday so we should keep details of all these and try and make one.
With the NSW ride if we have enough booked we get our own personally booked ride and we can choose some activities to do like drags.
Trying to get the Pilot boys online then we have the ancient oops I mean Odyssey (Rat Pack?) class and then we can have the "Razor Gang" for the RZR boys.
The pilot boys think the RZRs are pretenders to the crown only I think!!
Se what they say to that! _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

No I havent but OZpilot on here who owns a Honda Pilot 400 gets their group together there so I cant think of anything better to "bait" them than turn up in their stomping ground so why dont you PM him.
I dont know where I Qld each of you guys are. Like Im in Melbourne so for me its about a solid days driving to get to Newcastle but Im not worried to do that at all to spend 4 or more days riding. I even have a couple of mates who are keen to swap sides as passengers and drivers.
They'll make good film crew at the least. My wifes coming up to 8 months pregnant so if we could do it before mid November that would be great, otherwise I may be a bit tied down for a few months afterwards.
Cheers mate. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Guys, if people are still keen for this to happen, I can offer places at Tenterfield, Armidale, and 2 different locations in Tamworth all with more riding than you will ever do in a weekend. I am sure that John Liddel from ATV Tours might be persuaded to run an exclusive tour weekend around Nundle again, awesome weekend and accomodation facilities.

Sounds like some prime real estate Phil, I'd be willing to get that far from Melbourne and that would just be a day drive for the brissie boys so they wouldnt have an excuse! hehe
You going to post your ride is the first thing? Always gotta look at whats going round!
If we are at Armidale its then just a short jump across into Newcastle to Stockton.
C'mon guys, dig deep!
If we all get there with a personal webcam each we should be able to make a production DVD out of it and an article for ATV action if we can get Aussie duner to pop his head in with the pilot boys et al. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Ok, I will throw an idea out there. What if I was to run a fun day get together at a property near Tamworth on the saturday of easter. The property has waterfalls, trout streams, creek crossings, 4x4 sections, long straights, maybe 200kms+ of tracks and we could run a short GPS trial there as well, camping no problems. ITs actually on the road between Armidale and Gloucester, which makes it about 2-3hrs away from stockton beach for those that then want to have a burn down there.
Gavin, I am gathering from your posts that you are in Melbourne, keep in mind that all going to plan, we should have a launch day the first weekend of May at the VIC Winch Challenge near Tullamarine Airport. you are most welcome to come along and have a look.

I'll be first to say yes, even though it commits me away from other potyential fun not yet planned, Im sure this is going to be a great undertaking that is going to be years of fun and hopefully into perpetuity.
There is a few guys on other posts that we should get notes too who havent posted here yet so will you make another thread on say the planned w/e Phil?
Is it a family type get- together, that I can offer the family an opportunity to be together on the Easter hols?
Yes in Melbourne. As for the Tullamarine thing is there a website I should be watching or will you make posts here? I tried http://ccda.4wd.org.au/ but its feeling a bit poorly. But CCDA membership form printed for a geek.
I'm really looking forward to getting together with similar minded guys like Doug and Geoff who have been regualr posters and now a few new guys. Should be very much fun.
Now where to find a trade up RZR'S to keep up? If I'm going to do that I may as well keep travelling North and join Geoff on the cape run!!
Cheers to all

Gavin,
Any developments I will certainly post up here a.s.a.p. And anyone you can contact to spread the word would be greatly appreciated.
Yes it would be family orientated, even though my son has an ATV, I actually enjoy having him along with me in the RZR and he enjoys driving it too, so yes, everything I plan will always be fine for family. (My son came with me on the Nundle ride mentioned somewhere on this site).
To be honest, I wouldn't bother trading yours up to an "S". It would be cheaper to look into some of the growing aftermarket range of wide track kits in the US, fabricate some rear cage straps similiar to the "S" and your done really. Food for thought. I don't know of many fabricators in the ATV industry so I am open to suggestions, but I know the 4x4 boys would see anything to do with UTV's to be a piece of cake.
CCDA License/membership for 2009 was $44, plus $22 for each extra family member wanting to be involved (eithier as a marshal, competitior, Navi etc.)
Being new to the site, do you suggest I need to start a seperate post for the easter weekend idea?

I duno about NOT upgrading, I'd definately look!
Certainly a clutch kit off RZR headquarters is a must as well with that adding 5hp off the line, NOT to the top end so you can get going easier.
In terms of notices yeah I would set-up a new thread for every issue as people search on new threads to se whats come up.
I dont know if you are thinking of 4wd only buggies but if not People I know of but not in this thread:
Aussieduner - moderator - 2wd
Mick DSB - Redline Revolt bugguies 2wd
Dino - potential customer
47industries - professional quad team and maker of Aust Quad video's building a buggy.
LC4 - buggy unknown
OZpilot - Honda Pilot 400 Old skool!
Prokiwi - Aaron - new 2010 LE RZR'S??
Just picking them out of that list and what I know they have or havent done.
If you read through the threads Ive tried a couple of times just to get people together socially to form a group so Im going to support this all I can. I'll let you know up front I do have a neuro/muscular syndrome that affects me all day every day, tiredness muscular spasms and pain are my day. Which is why I had to opt out of quads and into buggies.
So I may never be a ripper but I'll be there for the participation.
Cheers

"Dino-potential costomer" Sorry Gavin. Potential spectator.
Heart is young but the wallet is old.
umm, my various catscans are like a phone book. Spine and neck have reached use by date 40 years early.
The neuro says I'm not allowed to play anymore.
The physio says "not yiou again"
The wife ( TEESH ) says if I don't paint the house and sell it, the tree-change will never happen.
The tree-change has to happen.
SO, unless I get my spine done with liquid-nails.......( not keen on the C3PO look and movement )
Phil, You have some of the best places at your doorstep near Tamworth. I spent quite a few years there as a country lineman and know the area well. Despite local opinion, it is not the centre of the universe. But it is a good place to start for people on the eastern sea board. ( location, location, location. )
To all the buggy owners, support Gavin and Phil in getting the social side set up. You blokes have invested 20+k in your toys. 2K a year to travel and meet up is better for everyone. Owners, families and assorted "attactments" will all get to share in road trips and experience a lot more than talking about "someone outa" on a bloody forum! _________________ Remember. Hey Geeman - has been a while.
Nothing to wild yet - awaiting what is happening with the competition thing before I decide on the next additions.
I have been busy getting one of me other toys ready for Tuff Truck which is now only about 3 weeks away
I have had time to do this however
which ITP replaced under warranty - good blokes
I have also crossed over to the dark side and purchased these for a little contract I have
nothing flash I know but the job site speed limit is 25 kph and we needed three seats.
Cheers for now

Bloody lucky dealer who got that sale! The Rhino looks the shizzle!
You having a go at the CCDA events with both your 4wd and then the buggy when it comes up? I havent got a winch on mine, yet!
And I ponder that but walking up and down hills to fit it to stuff is an issue. I think I'll mainly be a more flats type of person but we'll just have to see the courses and events.
In the States ATV's were outselling dirt bikes by 3-1 until 3 years ago. Now UTV's are outselling ATV's, and with safer vehicles we can finally get around coronors reports etc and out it right back on State govts. In our case this is completely neccessary for Victoria and I have sent a letter to my local members pointing out the one man crusade being run at Vic roads. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Looks good Jackass,
Love to have a Rhino on board, the more the better. Things are still happening behind the scenes. One of the main movers behind all of this (Mike Smith-winner of 3 Outback Challenges) went for a ride with Cody Croker the ralley driver on the weekend to get an up close and personal view as to what these units can do- and yes he was very impressed.
If you can see yourself being able to come down to the trial event in Melbourne on the first weekend of May, please let me know, it is just a test event, not serious, but the more we have the better we will be able to see what is the best way to go with these. Posters and flyers are at the printers now and I will post them up here as soon as they are available. Of course spectators are welcome.
(You could race those Rangers too you know, hint, hint)

Haha, of all things, I used to live next to Cody's sister 5 years ago just before he became champ. And I had heard he does have one of these vehicles (dont think he paid for it! )
Definately want to do it like Cody does, thats the go for me! _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Hey Phil,
Thanks for the invitation - I will look at my calender. I am very interested in seeing what direction you blokes are heading with this. I have been given the green light from my minister for war and finance to get back into offroad racing - the comp truck thing is a bit slow for me and I will probably only look at doing tuff truck each year.
In saying this thou I beleive that I could have just as much fun competing in a UTV style event which will leave the wallet in a better position. There is only so much you can write off hahahahha
Are all the other UTV's which are competing RZR as it would sound like I would have the only Rhino which is a bit behind the RZR.
What sort of modification limitations are you thinking of putting in place?
I am only thinking of Long travel suspension with some clutch upgrades along with some bar work.
Good to see that even Cody Croker was impressed - I will admit that by the time I finish one of the tracks at home that the passenger is either shitting themselves or laughing hard. I have even started to wear a helmet since my little mis judgement the other week.
Anyway - enough rambling on from me. I think either way I will make an effort to travel to Melbourne for the trial event.
As for the Rangers - it was hard for me to write a cheque for 5 polarises as all my life I have only had yamahas hahahahahahhahaha
Cheers

Chris,
Not sure of the mix at this stage, but both Yamaha and Kawasaki have been approached. All along we didn't necessarily want this to be a Polaris only thing, but naturally as a dealer I am a tad bias. We are trying to write the rules to allow modifcations for parity (such as the different top speeds, wheel tracks etc), and this is another reason we really want to try and get some other brands down to this winch challenge test, to see what needs to happen. That way at the end of the weekend with driver input, we can say, ok, a Rhino needs this or a Kawasaki needs to do that, to make for competitive racing for the spectators (at the same time keeping the cost down for competitors). At this stage winches can not be over 3,500lb, must be standard and run plasma rope for safety.
As for set up, other than a winch, UHF, harnesses, helmet and gloves and maybe give some consideration to a solid roof plate for better protection in the event of a rollover, you are ready to race. (We are still to finialise specs on roll cages/upgrades etc).
And Gavin, as a driver, you don't run up hills or set up winches in mud holes, thats what your Navi is for. You just have to find a good fit one looking for alot of fun.
But as I have mentioned, we now have promoters and locations ready to go in QLD, NSW and VIC already.
