Hi All
I was speaking with a friend who's father is a Ranger in the Glasshouse Mountains and surrounds. He told me that in the past week, QLD Police,QLD Ambulance/Parametics and Rangers have held meetings in regards to Motorbikes, 4WD's and alike using these area's. The main concerns (aparantly) is Registration, and SAFETY.
It has been noted an increase in riders in particular are not wearing appropreate safety gear eg: Helmut, Boots, Gloves and chestplates and/or Back protection.
C'mon people, what does it take to make some of you realise that we still have a few great FREE places to ride, If you have the money to buy a bike (quad or 2 wheeler) then spend a bit more on good safety gear.
You are responsable for yourself when riding, no matter what speed you do, you can do herendous and/or permanent damage to yourself.
From what was mentioned, Huge fines will be imposed, and your particulars recorded.
So please....for your own sake, Wear all the safety gear before they kick us out of another area to ride.
Go out and have fun and ride safe.
Vonammer

I've made some discreet enquiries.........
(1) A operation is to be launched. Initial duration is to be 6 weeks. No end date as this will be subject to results. FACT.
This operation has been triggered by complaints of "dangerous and anti-social behaviours" by concerned land-holders at adjoining properties. As the custodians of the land, Qld Forestry were invited to a round table discussion. Qld Ambulance have become involved arising out of undisclosed incidents. Qld police chaired the meetings. Exactly who, how many and the nature of complaints is not up for public discussion or disclosure. Trespass, noise, racing, littering and boozing on were disclosed to me. UNOFFICIAL FACT.
(2) The "target" of this operation will be anybody using this area WHO are behaving in a dangerous, anti-social or otherwise illegal manner. FACT
Unregistered, underaged, uninsured and unlicensed vehicles, riders and drivers will obviously get nailed. Behaviour of any sort that draws attention WILL get attention. COMMON SENSE.
(3) There is no fashion police. FACT. MX gear is not subject to legislation. MX behaviour is. If the need to have a race in any shape, fashion or form is felt. Bottle it. Save it for the appropriate venue. Not only you, but your mates. Please DO NOT support or encourage it. If anything, the opposite is required.
........................................................
So my take on this is simple. Be licensed and registered. Be prepared to show this documentation to either the Police or Forestry Rangers. Wear your lid and your boots. ( even I'll wear boots! )
Anybody who does get pulled up, show and tell how you and your mates are doing the right thing. If we co-operate, so will they.
..............................................................
The hows and why's of this DO NOT MATTER. Rumour and blame are a WOFTAM. Just be cool and be right. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

We're not talking about where you live, we're talking about a particular riding area (Glasshouse Mountains & surrounds). As you can read above, authorities are clamping down on this area due to some idiots ruining it for the rest of us.
I don't know whats in place in your area.
Have fun & ride safe.

I see your point & agree to an extent, Just remember i'm NOT attacking you or your children, am just passing on what i know.
I know they will be picking on...no boots, gloves and spine protection not worn on your child in that video along with the possible under age thing.
Once again i'm not making the rules or picking on you, but we're all going to have to adhere to what the rules will be, liking it or not.
I never said i agree to all rules/fines placed on us by authoroties, but i agree with the safety gear one 100% in this case.
Don't shoot the messenger.

Can someone please explain why a Quad needs too be registerd? I can see absolutely no benefit to the owner of the quad to pay money for no return, other than in my opinion to identify you to the very authorities who are not doing anything for you but trying to ruin your fun. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride!

Predatory. To try and answer your question here is most likely different answers for different people. My answer would probably not apply to a person who works on their own farm or races maybe 12 weekends a year at organised venues. But I, and many others, ride because we like to. The official term is recreational riding. But that means different things to different people. Current legislation limits where we can ride it. Like it or lump it, that's just how it is.
...................................................................................
Simple maths is one explanation. TO RIDE ON TRAILS/TRACKS.
For the eighty odd dollars a year to QLD DOT, you can legally ride in the state forests of Qld. All year. 365 days. National Parks are a No GO, except as part of a paying group.
Public roads are allowed to be crossed. Negoiation of public roads is a No Go, except as part of a paying group.
You could just pay eighty odd dollars a long weekend to go to a "ride park". THere is about 2 and a half within 3 or 4 hours drive of Brisbane. Uhmm, I think it'll take me a long time to check out all the forests. But to each there own, hey!
...................................................................................
No return $80 per annum OR $80 a long weekend. No benefit.
I don't really know the sort of riding you do. So I don't know if this even applies to you.
...................................................................................
The authorities? What would you like them to do for you? _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

I like that answer and that is why I wrote my post the way I did.
My next question is where can one read the legislation regarding what your registration for $80.00 actually entitles you to( including the fine print )? Does this legislation actually contain the word Quad/ATV?
What do you need to do/have to get this registration?
I have just come from WA where the registration entitles you to absolutely squat, especially not to access state forest. I have no objection to paying if I get area to ride.
How does one know where state forest ends and national park begins? Or is that something you have to find out yourself?
If you are registered what are the implications regarding public liability insurance? _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride!

They are all good questions Predatory.
Certainly worth answering, for a lot of people. SO, I'll put a post up in the Queensland Forum with the liinks and a little how to.
..............................................................................
Most of the answers you are seeking are available on the web, if you know where to look. It did take me a little while to get my head around this stuff. Like yourself, I didn't want to waste my money. But the actual rego process was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
..............................................................
I'll also include a few pictures of track signs both the NAt. Parks And QLD Forestry at a later date. ( I'll have to take some first..."Honey, I need to go for a ride on the quad!" is going to be answered with "hook the trailer up while I get our things!")
.............................................................
I can tell you the class of CPT (Compulsory Third Party) that is required.
CPT is diffeent to PUBIC LIABILITY. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

that area was allways a registed bike only area wasnt it ?
so wheres the problem ?...
get registed if you ride there
dont be trying to spray rocks in the face of police by doing donuts in the carpark..
its all very unfair for children i see it as discrimanation agaisnt them they cant go get a rego for there bikes to ride in the park how unjust is that instead of wasting our tax payer dollars on "MEETINGS how to stop the hoons" how about MEETINGS on how to let us all enjoy the park

Re: Conditional Rego. see QLD ATV Discussion
.................................................................
Re: The kids getting singled out, etc. I also agree with many peoples feelings re this. BUT, the quads and other "ATV's, IN THIS CONTEXT, are being judged by the authorities under the MOTOR VEHICLE ACT.
So, minimum riding age stuff applies in the state forests in QLD.
........................................................................
One of the ironies about legislation, is that a 6 year old can drive a motor vessel ( boat ), provided the skipper is within a vague distance of control.
Another irony is that a child can legally shoot firearms with a licensed shooter present.
But, neither of those examples falls under the legislation that is relevant here.
.............................................................................
Kids can still ride at the "appropiate venues". To my understanding, this is private property or places such as MX tracks and private business areas such as Manar Park. That will suit some, but not others. And that's just how it is. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

How narrow minded is that comment and judgemental but we're not getting personal are we . It's not personal it was a friendly debate where all sides of the arguement should be put forward.

So it's ok to take still shots of people on bikes with no safety gear but not alright to ride with closed in shoes and a helmet. fully road rego'd bike riders must wear closed in footwear and a helmut there are no other compulsory clothing items why would and how could the police inforce gloves and body armour. Racing situations yes not recreational. All atvs have warning signs they suggest you should wear protective gear and that you should NEVER operate.without proper training or instruction
.at speeds too fast for your skills etc etc
I suppose you paid for a training course then?
Now about name calling I think you should grow up a bit my daughter got over that in pre-school.

I don't think it matters where you live and ride but I think all riders should condsider Rego/CTPI very carefully and I'll tell you why.
I had a stack a couple of years ago which required an hour and a bit ride in an ambulance, three nights stay in hospital and 4 hours on the operating table. I know the ambulance bill was $1600.00 because they sent it to me. I've got no idea what the hospital charges would have been as I didn't see the costing but it would have been considerable.
My quad was registered and the CTPI insurance covered the lot and I didn't have to pay a cent.
Anybody who has ridden quads for any time knows that your next crash is only just around the corner no matter how careful you are or how good of a steerer you think you are.
Rego here in Tassie is around $260.00 P.A. and is a small price to pay I reckon. _________________ 2010 Sukuki
