 |
|
When I rebuild my bike I am putting a new cam chain in it so I was thinking while I was there would it be worth doing the cam mod just for a bit more poke. Or is it just too much stuffing around and asking for trouble. Just after opinions on it. I'm not definantly doing it yet.
Just thought I should add it will be done with a mechanic as well not just by me and dad. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

The cam mod isn't already done? I haven't meet a YFZ450 without the mod.
Answer to your questions is....yes, have the cam mod done. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

what is the cam mod? do you just adjust the cam timing a bit or were you talking new cams? _________________ 01 Banshee

Just adjust the timing. Do a google search on it and it comes up with a fair bit about it. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

Very easy to do, just make sure you double check everything. Mine can be a pain in the arse to start sometimes with the cam mod. This is fairly common from what ive read but it could just be the jetting.
The cam mod is just changing the cam timing to be the same as the YZF. gives a bit more top end power, its quite noticeable. |

what you need to do is turn the Exhaust cam BACK one tooth from its proper mark, this is approx the same aas installing a YZ450 cam from the same year, you will get more benefit from it however if you have a high rev ignition.
when I had my 04 YFZ we tested this mod back to back with one with out it done and the stock one was easier to ride but the Cam mod one definitely had more snap. _________________

Did you have any trouble starting yours PeteW? I've just googled it and a few seem to have this problem. Is it worth it if its going to be a pain to start or is there an easy fix for it? _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

Nope never had a problem with starting mine, they are harder to start with the YZ cam (it is a bigger change than just moving the YFZ cam one tooth) _________________

I've had no issues starting my old '04 or my current '07, both with cam mod. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Well I've decided just to do it and see what happens. If I like it like most seem to it will stay and if i don't it won't be that hard to change it back. Bike is getting taken apart today. Doing the water pump first and then the piston ect. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

Is it worth me putting a new timing chain in while I am there? Doesn't seem very worn and sounds like a big job to get it off. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"
