might help if you put up what type of riding you intend to do, where you live and what access you have to parts/spares, what spares you may already have, riding experience.
personally i would go the Yamaha as you will find spares easier. What about the suzuki's? they have a good rep. _________________ 08 Raptor 700SE

| Yeah mainly doing trail riding and mx that sort of thing in SA. We have been riding for around a year or two. So dont know a huge amount about the bikes as yet so more just after your thoughts on the best overall bike etc. They were the best bikes based on looks, that i have seen. Its all about quality of the bike vs how much you pay for the bike. |

I have to agree. John Deere is a very trustworthy brand.
Go the yamaha. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

yammie all the way
just that the rear rims are way too soft for racing so you'll have to swap em for aftermarket ones if u wanna race
theres a budget build up of the yammie in ATV ACTIONS last couple of mags
cheers, q0d |

Reliability between a Yammie and a Kwacker should be pretty much on par. Just because a lot of people ride one brand doesnt nessasarily mean the alternative is poor quality. There are number of factors that weigh into popularity, not in the least marketing.
The Yammie (I assume you mean the R) is wide out of the box, which will save you a fair bit of time and money over the Kwacka, because the green machine will need to be widened to race competitively. But having said that you should be able to get the Kwacka a lot cheaper in the first place.
You also have to remember that The Yammie has the runs on the board. 450 Yammis have been running around in Australia since 2003, and they were the machine that really dragged Quadracing out of the dark ages. The YFZ450's were the first machine to give the average quad rider access to cutting edge chassis and engine design. Before the YFZ, it took mega dollars to get a quad up to speed.
Since that time all the other manufacturers have got on board so we are a bit spoilt for choice now days. CAN-AM, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda, and Polaris all make quads with the potential to win races.
As for green verses blue, If your going to race the Yamaha will probably be easier, by virtue of its width and popularity. If its trail riding, either will do the trick. I agree with you that the green machine does look the part! _________________ State governments give us REC rego + area to ride ATVs legaly! Duz not matter whot you ride its the guy on it that will win.

Darren weren't you just bragging in another thread that you had a $10000 engine you had to rebuild 3 times every 10 hours????? If that's a tight budget I'd hate to see what you'd do with a large one _________________ You Can Fix Alot Of Things In This World But...

Have you considered a Polaris MXR450? I reckon they're a good compromise between the two and would be good for MX and the trails.
You should be able to pick up an 09 model for around $8500.00 new.
47inch's wide and with reverse, a good reliable engine, braided brake lines, hydraulic clutch etc, etc. They're good value.
