hi guys and gals, i am new to the forum but it looks great, i have got a big dillema and hope someone can help out with info or surgestions,, at the moment i own a 2006 suzuki vinsin 500 manual, its in very good condition and nothing at all wrong with it, used mainly on the sand dunes and bush work and also do a lot of shooting on it, the main problem is basically that ime sick of changing gears !!!! . now . . . i have got a deal done if i want it on a new king quad 750 with power steer, its a really good deal from my point of view , one of the conditions was that i can swap my wheels and tyres from the vinson to the new one but i think the new 750 has a different offset rims , mine will still go on but will they muck up the steering and susp. geometry ???????????? also i think the engine braking on the vinsos is absolutely awesome,, but i am a bit concerned about the engine braking on the new 750 auto?? is it any good or as good as the manual gearbox????

any help or ideas would be welcome
cheers Tony.....

My 750 Brute Force engine breaking is nothing short of fantastic either down hill or backing off from high speed, most times backing off is all thats needed for me, and not changing gear is good, lots of time you get into trouble just power on and laught I find it that good !!!

Do your self a favour and take a Polaris for a ride and you will be happy to shell out the extra $$$, I had to decide betwwen the 750 King and a sportsman and when I rode the Polaris the decision was easy. laughing

Hi 500 HO, i probably would buy a polaris or wizz bang can am but i wouldnt get the orsm trade in price the suzuki joint offered me for my vinson.... so its about all i can afford ATM , but i still really dunno if ime gunna do the deal !!!!!!! , every time i look at the vinson in the shed i think ( what do i wanna sell it for ) but as i said before, ime sick of changing gears while ime shooting and carking over rough rocky tracks, trouble is .. ive never ridden a auto and dunno what there like, the vinson has good power and i guess the 750 KQ will have crap loads more. Does the auto gbox take away much power from the engine compared to a manual ?? another thing i like bout a newie is the idea of independant rear susp. never ridden one b4 but i guess its better ?? So come next week i will have to make a desision ... will i or wont i ???????????????????????????????????? I have spent heaps of time on the vinnie completly pulled it to bits and greased , lubed , checked , wanked , tightened , fixed , etc etc.... so i dunno , a lot out there would say " just do it and stop going on about it " but will i hate the 750KQ or love it..
need more ideas and comments before next tuesday

cheers Tony Rolls eyes Rolls eyes Rolls eyes

Take a Valium and a deep breath, there is a bit of diferance man/auto but I bet after half an hour on the 750 you won't pick it, Its fantastic to come around a corner straight into the rough and and not have to worry about what gear you are in, just power on and instant take off, Ive had both man/auto and for hunting and just playing the auto is the way to go, just look at all the people you are asking most if not all run auto's, Hope this helps, if not take 2 valiun and the go do your trade, Good luck.

Hi tonyB,

We've got the cousin of your Vinson in the CF Moto. It's a 500cc in what, is called a CVT with IRS. ( CF Moto have been building components for Suzuki and Yamaha since about 1989....)
Ours is a 2 seater. We use ours for touring, trail riding, shooting and a bit of work about the farm. We'd have liked the other stuff but budget and needing a 2 seater made it easier to decide because there is a lot of good stuff out there. As ours has some of what your asking about............
CVT. Thats a Constantly Variable Transmission. It uses a centrifugal clutch to drive two infinately variable pulleys joined by a drive belt to give you a stepless transmission. It puts you in the right ratio for the load and speed your doing. Some people call them autos. It is a very easy to use sytem. One hand on the throttle, the other on the spottie........NO. Engine braking is not as good as with a manual. With any brand.
IRS. The IRS is much more comfortable on a quad than a live rear axle. Better ride and traction. Much better. Take what you want for a test ride.
Our 2 cents worth:
Whist you know and love your 'zuke, stuff eventually wears out. $7000 won't go far either way. 750cc with power steering, "auto" tranny and IRS, would be like going from a HR ute to a Commodore ute, as far a performance, comfort and power are concerned. Regarding swapping you wheels over. Measure the off-set of both. If it's within an inch, you'll probably be OK. Most quad stuff on these sorts of bikes is under warp speed.

Hello Tony,

We've chatted in another thread. I used to have an old Polaris Xplorer 400 2 stroke with CVT and it was a great machine to ride with plenty of grunt. It was a 1999 model and I got it second hand and it wasn't looked after by the original owner and things started going wrong with it.

Three years or so ago I decided to get a Yamaha Big Bear 400 with manual transmission. That was a mistake on my behalf for the type of riding I do I can tell you. The constant gear changing is a real pain especially on the sand where if you get the slightest hint of rev loss it's the big reverse job back to the bottom of the dune.

Don't get me wrong, the Yamaha has been an exceptionally reliable bike over the time I've had it and have never had a mechanical fault but it's more suited to the farm pulling around trailers. Yammy lovers please don't get on my case.

As I said in the other thread, I can't wait to get my new KQ750 next week and I suggest you should also.

In my opinion, from looking at all available quads in the big bore range, the Suzuki is the best value for money....That's my opinion only, so other brand enthusiasts please note that accordingly.

Other issues -

CVT versus Manual = No contest.

Engine Braking = No big issue.

Wheel size = As the previous poster wrote.

IRS versus LS = Another no contest I reckon.

Should I? = Just do it...Have a go.

P.S. I haven't got the PM yet.

Hi Dino and tks. for your comments, all noted, i think its all coming together, as for the wheel issue, ..... the offset on the vinson rear rims is quite big.. about 4 1/2 inches from the hub to the outside of the rim, and the front rims have about 1 1/2 inches to same point, now ,, the new KQ750 has less offset on the back and more on the front so my way of thinking is if i put my vinson wheels on the KQ750 the back track will be heaps wider than the front track , have a think about it .
Other idea eek can i buy some nice alloy wheels for the 750 if the vinnie ones dont work out ?? if so , where do ya gettem from and how much are they?? I HATE the look of the standard black crappy whells on the KQ750, theres nothing liks a good set of wheels on ya ride, be it how ever many wheels its got..
thanks again
Tony.

BTW . orsm forum with helpfull people laughing laughing
