Interesting choice of swingarm to go with that rear shock a honda 450 one would suit the chassis a bit better with the linkage its got.
I have an 04 YFZ axle (its only a stock one though) send us a PM or call me on 0419 001 747 if you're interested. _________________

yeh i was goin to use the honda swinger though the swing arm doesnt have the gap between the rear engine mount see i incorporated the cr's back engine mount where the swingarm wraps around the motor and just because the swinger i had and yeh lol. the only prob now is the shock is really long for that swinger where the mounts are so i may have to change the top shock mount dunno yet may also end up just usin a honda one _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |

Greetings Mart, from the states!
I am also building a quad with a cr500 engine. The way you've solved some of the obstacles was brilliant. I hadnt thought of your kick starter design-excellent. just wondering if you had any updates to report. I will try to upload a pic or 2 of my yfz450/cr500 abomination soon. Thanks for the inspiration (there are so many nay-sayers about these builds) and keep up the good work.

Gday mate thanks for the comments. The kick start idea is a good one but i cant take credit for it i actually got the idea for that off a guy in the states that did an atc 500r.But i would also say it should be left in theory because no matter how strong i make the gears and different configurations it never holds up just to much force on them.AS for an update the balance system is that close its not funny just one little shaft has to be turned up an some holes tapped then its the big test fire lol oh god help us ill prob end up with a balance weight into my forehead lol.
Id also love to see some of your photos of your build
Mate i think every 1 is against these 500 builds and honestly they are mostly correct if this counter balancer doesnt stop vibrations i dont know what will.cheers _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |

Nah stupid me instaed of just doing the motor and then putting it in the quad i already had it in and get the motor right, i thought it would be a good idea to change swing arms and shocks and god knows what else so now i have to finsh all that first. The motor is in the quad and if i hooked radiator and pipe etc up i could start it but i just moswell fin it all an not half arse it.Im kinda scared to start it waitin for somethin to fly out of it lol. _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |

yeh ive had it runnin its in the quad im still tied up with all the frame an "profanity removed" gettin peices together.it still vibrates no where near as bad but yeh im gunna add some more weight the weight in it is 200grms a stock air cooled r runs about 700 grms but they arent a full circle crank wheel.so it needs more weight.where as the watercooled r's run half that and they are a full circle crank so im thinkin if i can get it up around the 500grm mark i should be pretty close also im goin to change my mounts and get rid of all the rubber and use thick alloy plate mounts because all the rubber is doin is amplifing the vibrations .if any of that makes any sense lol Also it all runs smooth no noises what so ever no weights flyin out across the yard lol all good there will be a video of it sometime soon just have to sort the weight out cheers. _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |

Make a "large" capacity laydown 2 stroke engine... CHECK
Add a counter balancer to an engine that doesn't have one... CHECK
Whats the next engineering challenge/feat?
Make rear kick engines forward kick...
Conversion kits to convert quads into trikes...
Kits to convert china minibikes into trikes...
CRF450R engines into china minibikes converted to a trike... |

i think you should aim to get a video of it idling with a 20 cent coin balancing on top.. that would be good marketing!! haha _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

i had it runnin yesterday with a little contraption i built with a bottle hangin on some string around tha hangers and it was half full of water.and then started it .but the prob i have is this engine even without the balancer at idle it dont vibrate with the way i have the crank balanced.its all up top and because the pipe i have at moment doesnt seal properly its as loud as hell and i dont wanna annoy the neighbours.but i did give it some good revs with the balancer in and with the balancer out there is difference but still not enough tmoz will be diff story its off to work for me.changin all the mounts (no rubber what so ever)more weight on the balancer then will see how it goes i can rev the livin fu#k out of it at work an no 1 but the birds will here it lol cheers _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |

Well just got back from work changed all the mounts added more weight and reved the livin p#ss out of it.Good and bad news the vibes are actually worse at bottom revs with the balancer in but then at mid & high rpms with balancer in theres no vibes well very little.but low revs with no balancer its smoother than mid & high rpm's you seriously cant hold the handle bars lol and that aint exagerating so overall its fixed 80% of it and i dare say would be very rideable but ive come this far so i dont want to stop there i want it smooth so ive just ordered a standard crank from the states. As like i said my crank in it has been balanced and thrown the balance factor right out so its actually affecting the position of where the weight has to be.So its out with the donk again and split the cases once again and put this other crank in lol aaaahhhhhh dont we just love engines pppppffffffffftttttttttttttttt!!!!!!! Oh and you wanna know somethin really dumb i did i grabbed our video camera off the bench this mornin to take some video got over there and realised i grabbed our wrong video cam the one that dont work.Im not the brightest human lol _________________ 1984 ATC 300R, 1986 TRX 500R,1984 ATC 200X, ATC 70 WITH CUSTOM LAYDOWN 250R ENGINE, 125CC CUSTOM THUMPSTER TRIKE |
