Hey people,

Im going with a mate to look at a few 125's with him in sydney on Friday, and i'd like to take a compression tester along with us.

Can anyone lend us one for the day? my mate lives in beverly hills and we are going to look at a bike in engadine, and one in manly. well drop it back with a 6 pack as soon as were finished!

thanks, mark

Dirt cheap from places like Super Cheap.

Just a thought, but some people may baulk at letting a stranger screw around with thier bike.

I once sold an XF Falcon to some (really nice person) who insisted on compression checking the engine. No matter that the car ran strong and displayed no problems that would suggest that it was down on compression.
I already had a deposit, so if said (really nice person) screwed up one of the threads, he was paying for it... one way or another.

Screwed his dinky little tester into number one. and turned over the engine. his compression tester blew to pieces.

"I guess it does have pretty good compression.... or would you like to go and buy another one to test the rest?".

He sheepishly handed over the remiander of the dough and drove his new High Comp XF home.

I often wonder if it would have got ugly had he destroyed a spark plug thread. (as stated I did have a deposit so it would have been ok) but I dont think I would ever let anyone else do it again, unless they were prepared to lay down $300 for the Helicoil guys callout fee BEFORE they layed spanners on my property.

nah Toby i always just use Quaggy's compression tester back home, but im in brisbane at the moment and the bikes im going to look at with my mate are in sydney.

i might just buy a $45 one from Super Cheap, but you can never trust them.
