Skin graph, you are not alone out there.
Have you tried any of those semi govt. things like skills australia or apprentice australia? I think centre link can point you that way. These organisations take you on as a apprentice and hire you out as short term labour hire to companies that need a short term solution.
They take care of the paperwork that frightens many employers from commiting themselves for 3 or 4 years and generally have enough clients to get you thru.
Alternatively, any apprenticeship is a good long term thing. Possibly another trade?
Good luck with it. You will find something.

If you want to get into the motorbike mechanic side of things. go to a bike shop and ask if you can work there just doing T.A. work then after a bit of time ask if you can do a trade with them. if they dont want to take you on as a appentice then start looking around other bike shops for then you would have been working in a bike shop for a bit of time and thats one foot in the door..

There was a mob called CCI Chamber of Commerce and Industry I think.
They used to set up apprenticeships worth a try

Everyone is right mate their are opportunities but the bike mechanics one may be a little bit limited, especially in Perth. You could always try the likes of the main recruitingfirms such as Skilled and th like to see what they have to offer. As for jumping through hoops and paperwork get used to it as it is a part of life.
Keep your chin up and something will come along.

No offence 660 but beggers can"t be choosers in this climate. Apply for as many things as you can. Even if they are slightly left field of what you really want. At some stage the experience will get you on the track that you really want to be on. Do they still do those pre apprentice courses through TAFE? Might be a leg up on someone else who hasn't done anything when it comes down to it.

good luck

Skingraph, I've only been working for 35 years or so, but I still remember what it was like for me at 17. Yuck
Truth is, take what you can get at the moment.
Whatever gives you the food, roof and entertainment that you need. If you just focus on what you want, your likely to suffer un-necessary disappointment and hardship.
For what it's worth, at 17 years of age, I'd avoid the mines and camps. That system can eat a novice alive unless someone takes you under their wing.
Despite all the well intentioned bull that's been introduced into the workforce, 2 things still really count.
( A ) It's who you know, not what you know. Wink
( B ) Attitude is better than aptitude. Hrm
Those two things will find you work. If people know you and like your attitude, they'll give you a fair go. Very Happy Very Happy

i wasnt begging at all!! i was asking if people knew a place that was offering any apprenticeships in bike mechanics. see you think i have attitude because u dont know me at all. but unlike YOU other people have suggested ideas for me to look at different industries to work in. so if you dont have anything useful to say dont say anything at all.
