KTM 525 XC using Motul.
Did the timing chain at 95 hours and that's it apart from doing oil and filters every 10 hours.
Got 120 hours on it now and the top end is getting close to needing a refresh. _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

It all depends on how it's being ridden and how often they are serviced. _________________ "WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH, GET SERIOUS, GET KTM" |

| wow, i didnt realise that engines needed to be rebuilt so often. my 08 yfz would be pushing about 50hrs and still seems to be going strong. I was hoping to ride it for years before a rebuild?!? so what does a rebuild cost? |

Pete built my DS450 at the start of last year and it's done Finke, TP300 and all those kind of races plus some trail riding and MX. I'll be running that bike in Darwin at the 9hr and we have no plans to update to an 2010 or give it a freshen up in the near future _________________ Smitty |

That is the thing most of these 40 hour 4 stroke rebuilds are for full on racing
( preventative maintenance only ) even then half the guys that do rebuild them are wasting their $$
Shyte if a quad engine only lasted 40 hours no one would buy them and the manufactures would not make them
As long as you keep a good oil up to them and service them most should go for years |

Most of the American Pro450's of any brand are in the park of 60- 65hp and they rebuild for every race day.
Clutch changes etc between 20min moto's are common place.
but that's the U.S.
Being a little old sub 50hp Can-Am racer here in Australia...
I've wondered the rebuild question myself.
My bike has done a lot of racing in multiple classes all year.
Trail, dunes and general riding as well, and it still seems to be perfect.
I'll have to plug BUDS in one day and see how many hours it's up to.
Dunno... between 50 and 100 maybe. _________________ Can-Am X Team
