I've been having trouble with my bike with the battery going flat when I've been out riding and I have just been putting it down to a dodgy battery but we bought a multimeter today and it is only charging about 11 volts. Its been doing it from pretty much when I got it.
Any ideas guys?

It will be no looking out.

Had no problem with it for the first 2 years. I noticed when i purchased my new battery for my new bike that they have gone back to non sealed batteries, This could be because the old type would not last.

And dangerman4 Go F$CK Yourself. think before you type D$ckhead. Ever thought battery could be faulty.

I'll do what Quad said and if I'm still having trouble afterwards I might get you to have a look at it.
And don't worry Cotto it's too hot to be breaking knees this time of year. Smile
I'm sure dangerman if Cotto and Quad had wanted to rip me off and sell me a dodgy bike they wouldn't have helped me out so much and they still wouldn't be trying to help me out now.

Thats exactly how NOT to get things fixed, if you walked into my workshop with that attitude you would get as little help as possible!

Well with the battery fully charged it is now putting in 12.55 volts so i would say that it is the battery now that it is putting in more than when it was flat. Will have to buy a new battery and see how it goes.

do these quads have external or internal regulators? if its external put 1 lead on the F terminal on the alternator and 1 lead to the positive of the battery and the charge rate should shoot to like 16v's, by doing that ur canceling out the regulator and the alternator will be charging at full amps. (only do this 4 a couple of seconds). this way u can find out if its the regulator or alternator that playing up. if the volts dont shoot up to 16v's or round that much then ur windings or diodes are shagged in ur alternator.

another trick to is to ride around with ur lights on high beam(if they have high beam) so it loads up the alternator and makes the battery get a good charge, do that for about 15mins. Smile

this works on kenworths to diagnose faulty regulators, never worked on a raptor so give it a shot Smile

Nick.

This is totally incorrect, yfz450 has a stator and external reg/rectifier, it does not have an alternator like a common motor vehicle

hey feral, mite be a long shot but i know chinese quads use cheap batteries and all but maybe see if the battery from that will work with ur 450 just untill u can afford a new one if it works.

beats having to charge ur other one up every time if the chinese batt dont go flat after first ride.

I've actually got a really good battery in my chinga bike because the stock one was sh1t but I don't think it will fit in my 450. The one in my jammy lasts 3 or 4 rides.
