Why is it you dont se many Hondas Racing in quads but there everywhere in 2 wheelers? Is the quad no good? _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |

$$$$$ And lots of them. Hondas success on 2 wheels really reflects what they've invested there. I don't think they "support" their racing quads nearly as much.
Just reading the various ATV magazines, Yamaha and KTM, for example, advertise pretty heavily.
Money=success=money.
I'd suggest that if ANYONE did alright on a Honda consistantly in racing in Aus, sponsorship of the brand would increase.
From the companies point of view, if they've got a winner, they'll want to keep it there, with go faster stuff and improvements because that really sells the product.
From a competitors point of view, if you can get on to a successful formula,
with "off the shelf" improvements, you've won 1/2 the battle.
From a fun point of view, anything that does the job that's in your budget, is a winner. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

In the US the TRX is everywhere in every class you could mention. I still beleive the Honda is the best base to work from if you want a race quad but because it's in such a mild tune in stock form you need to upgrade everything.
Absolutly every part you see on a Honda is available as an upgrade from a aftermarket supplier but it does make it bloody expensive. It used to be worth it but with the LTR, KTM and the Can-Am MX quads you can get so much for a resonable price.
Honda must upgrade in a big way as they have lost their advantage......If they had an advantage is another debate.

The early model Hondas were made in the USA and were a good base to work with. joe Byrd still runs the 05 models today, or though he may be running out of them. From 2006, they were made in Japan. They had higher compression, but the motors weren't that good. Gearboxes are also terrible from new. _________________ "WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH, GET SERIOUS, GET KTM" |

It's all the truth. Why else would Honda supply Byrd with old models. They want a chance of winning races.
Here, let me put a boot in. We had to strip our engine to get some work done on the gearbox before we could use it. _________________ "WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH, GET SERIOUS, GET KTM" |

I guess if Joe has to pay for his bikes now, the cheapest alternative is to run the brand he has already developed over the past however many years. Setting up and developing a new brand race machine is not a cheap exercise.

Does'nt mean that everyone needs to Bigdog.....
I do agree on the 04/05 R being a better motor than the 06 and on ER motor although the gear around it was better on the later model
Honda have dropped the ball big time with sport ATV's here in OZ but it is also not their main market by any stretch of the imagination (nor is it for any manufacturer usually utility quads win out there) but as far as supporting racing goes they maybe should have lifted the game when Chris and Ant even looked like changing brands, which was bound to happen really with 3 National titles between them from 05 to 07 and the level of support (or lack of) that they were both getting well I'd be jumping ship too........ _________________
