does depend on what context that the term "cases split" is in,
saying that you have split the cases in mechanical terms is saying that you have opened up the bottom end of the engine, by splitting the cases open at their centre line join.
the other meaing it could have is that the cases have been split as in cracked and are leaking..... _________________
