so theres always the topics of best power but if you are not accelerating you are supposed to be braking (or so ive herd!) so which quad has the best brakes?
and let narrow it down to quads that are new like 2008 upwards. if i was going to buy a quad tomorrow from a dealer on the basis that it has the best brakes what would i choose? (im not going to use this to my own advantage ) _________________ Race In Peace Chillibin |

The bikes with braided brake lines will always have better brakes than the bikes with nylon brake lines (the nylon brake lines expand under pressure giving less feel). I don't think there'd be a huge difference between the Polaris, KTM and the CanAm.
I voted Polaris as that's what i own.

Wouldn't have a clue as I have only rode the YFZ450 and Outlaw 525.
I think most people would be guessing as they haven't rode all those polled.
My '07 YFZ450 brakes well enough for me though. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

I'd agree with the responses above.
All of the bikes with good brakes are pretty much the same.
I haven't ridden all the bikes listed, but i have not ridden a 450 with 'bad' brakes for years.
I find the Can-Am brakes are excellent and the standard appointment of a 4 position adjustable front brake lever is handy to suit different reaches.
You really notice when the lever is adjusted right, when fatigue sets in toward the end of hard MX races. _________________ Can-Am X Team

The brakes on the KTM will throw you over the handle bars.
Braided lines will make a big difference to any system, but you will notice it more on the front than the back. _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

I have ridden all the bikes and the KTM ones are better. Don't know why _________________ Truth and Honor and Trust ... never under estimate Them. |

If only it were as simple as that.
Everyone with a holden could fit braided line to their commadores and have the brake of an HSV with the top of the range brakes. _________________ "WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH, GET SERIOUS, GET KTM" |

I have ridden most of the current models (with the exception of the KTM SX alhough I have ridden the XC version). While I agree with Bullet that there is probably not really any such thing as a 450 with bad brakes these days
Honda have always traditionally had good brakes with a mix of braided and rubber lines where Yamaha's have always needed braided lines fitted to get the best out of the brakes (and to extend the lines when longeer A Arms are fitted) the stand outs out of the current models are probably the KTM which has 4 piston front brake calipers (as opposed to all the other manufacturers only having 2 piston calipers) and the DS450 which has bigger front discs than any other model due to it's inside out caliper design but if you had to say the best out of all of them then probably the Kato for the fact that the 4 piston Brembos give the best feel. _________________
