ok guys i pulled down my honda 1984 250r today, have a few questions to ask.
1. after reading about the swing arm problems, i didnt want to attempt this, but i did anyway, and the swing arm bolt came out no problem at all. but i would like to know is how do i get the bearings out of the swing arm, it looks like it has som type of cap on the ends, are these screwed in or pressed in, how do i get these out
2. i remember comming acros a site on the net before that had all specs and diagrams with every single part on the 250r trike, im trying to find this site again, does anyone no of this site, if so could you post me the link please, they were all black and white diagrams.
3. i know the motor in this trike is good, how can i clean up the motor without pulling it down, what do you guys recommend
4. im going to get the frame sand blasted this week, why should i choose powder coating over epoxy enamel spray.
5. can anyone recommend a place where i can buy stainless steel bolts from to suit this model
this is all a new learning curve for me as im not that mechanically minded, but im going to give it a shot, so anything you can do to help would be great.
cheers

1. i put a socket in the same Outside Diameter and smacked the bearings out with a hammer
2. buy a clymer or haynes shop manual (always comes in handy)
3. i pulled the barrel and head off and had them sandblasted, pulled the side covers off and sanded them and painted them and sanded the cases and painted them
4. i had my frame and swingarm sandblasted and powdercoated in 1 hit a Pro Strip at Redhead (awesome job)
5. you can buy all the bolts seperately at a bolt shop (Hi-Tensile i think its called at mayfield-carrington) or you can buy the full bolt set off ebay USA
hope this helps
cheers

Re Question 1, they are called the swingarm pivot bushes and they can be knocked out from the inside,a little tricky, they have to come out to get access to remove the bearings.I find this site handy for all parts diagrams on the 250R's.

thanks for the info guys, and yes that the site i came across before, i have been told to stay away from powder coating and go epoxy enamel, powder coating ends up cracking and chipping easy, so im going with the paint. frame going to the blasters tomorrow, hopefully painted over the weekend.
im sure i will have more questions, so i guess i will ask on the way.

Kyle,
I had them made at a local machine shop who still has them on file, the only difference I done was I made 5 and 6 the same and ran a bearing in each one, this is instead of a bearing in six and just a bush in 5.
You can see a picture of them in the Resto of my '83, I would post the link but don't know how. |

I found a bloke over in the states who makes polyurathene bushes for the swing arm, which eliminates the need for a bearing kit to be used. Said he has used them for 5 years with no problems has anyone else used these before i buy a set.

go the originals, the others dont last and get slack. The chinese quads have plastic bushes, and we all know how good they are. _________________ HAD heaps of trikes, back to just one now
