I have just finished reading the story bazz put in the latest ATV action mag on page 8 and i for one am sick of having to look over my shoulder for rangers just to have some fun riding ,i like my trail riding to much so i have to go against the law everytime i ride i think we as sport quad riders should not be put in the same bag as the farmers which is the reason why we cant get rec reg in vic i have been a farmer for a quite a few farmers and i know they do not wear there helmets and always overload there quads with 6x4 trailers full of farm gear and for these reasons alone i think we as rec users should not be put in the same class as the farmers in the cases that are going thru court at the moment and that is why i am thinking we should all get together AS A GROUP in one of vics state parks and protest this bullshit case and it doesnt even have to be just quads we could get 4x4 and motorbike riders to have a say about what the gov is doin with OUR land as well let me know what you guys think

Blade, the biggest problem is Vic roads, the QRCV had many a go at trying to get rec reg, and in Particular, two chaps stand out for 1000% effort are Woodsy, and beachy. They did an exelcclent job, but the Vic roads didnt want to know, and the coraners court descion is still pending, check out the QRCV web site for any past news letters on the rec reg thing.

footnote: the qrcv has a new committe line up for 2007, so petew could POSSIBLY know if the new committe are going to follow the rec thing up for this year.

Waiting on the Coroners decision is getting boring i agree, but until there is one there is no point pursuing the issue.

Unless of course, the Gov. just gets its head out of it's arse (why did the anti motorcycle party get voted back in) and see's us as a legitimate source of revenue (proper rego for quads would be as beneficial to them as to us) and we can all be happy and have places to ride.

Lack of Req Reg is holding this sport back big time.

Look in europe for pete's sake. You can fully register quads for the road. Maybe we should just jump throught the hoops to get our quads registered for the road and bypas these small minded beuracrats all together.

Or we should all drive our cars utes, trailers etc, with quads on the back right up to parliment house and have a bloody massive sit in until some fat politition gits orf isarse and does the righty by us. Its good enough for the aboriginals then its good enough for me.

Protest time boys, whos up for it!

The thing that f@&ks me off the most is that I see 2 quads ride past my work nearly every day. I'm talking Nicholson St Carlton!.....they have number plates and full rego; they dont have helmets and seem to go as fast as they want........How you ask; well they work for the same government that wont let us use them because they are "too dangerous".

We don't and won't have any reg for quads because the Labor Nazi that thinks he runs this state doesn't want to piss off the real people that run this state, the Greens. Greens policy is no access to national parks by anyone on any form of transport....period.

IMO.....The only chance I see for us to get any form of reg is for the Feds to define a quad as a bike.....

It's not up to State Government, it is totally up to Vic Roads and their decision alone. The result of the coroners enquiry will have no bearing whatsoever on rec reg for quads.
Vic roads think ATV's in the bush are/could be dangerous and they will not grant rec reg, this is their opinion and their final decision was made several months ago.
We are tired of chasing it, we left no stone unturned, perhaps someone else has some other ideas as to how to make it happen, Woody and I wish you all the luck but don't hold your breathe. There are some quads registered in Vic, somehow they have probably obtained it on a somewhat shonky basis but hey, good luck to em.
I look forward to seeing you guys on the telly with your quads on the steps of parliament.

You guys have done lot for the sport by pushing this issue with vic roads and deserve a medal. Its unfortunate that people are so polarised on this issue

I have been reading some of the OH&S reports generated in regard to ATVs, possibly circulating as a result of all the farming accidents.

Some of the complete and utter garbage circulating in these reports is astounding, ROPs on ATVs comes to mind, (rollbars) what person who knows how to ride a quad would ever suggest such a thing? The lack of accurate stats is another. One stat came from a farmer who hooked up a grosely overweight trailer to an ATV that had no brakes. Well Guess what! the trailer and "EVIL" ATV rolled foward and he managed to get himself pinned between the ATV and a shed. ARRRGH ATV-TOR has struck again..... ATV dosen't stand for All Terrain Vehicle. Nosirree It stands for Allmighty Terror Vehicle. No wonder we can't get our quads registered.

But seriously, I'm not saying that you can't get hurt on ATVs. All I'm saying is that they are no more dangerous than anything else that requires a helmet. In fact you wouldn't catch me on a skateboard, a horse, or snowskis ever again. For me all three of those things a far more dangerous to my health than my "EVIL" quad is. I wonder where the government agency is for banning all these pastimes....... VIC roads must have a policy on it somewhere.

So my question is this...

If I went to the trouble of setting a date and did the ground work to have a real protest. Who would honestly be there with their quads?

This old issue hey?. As yogie said, woodys & Beech have chased this subject (in vic) for sometime now. If you want to load the quads up & have a protest, thats one idea but if its a matter of "making a stand" i think as a group we should approach this properly. If we r all getting together r we doing this on a state level or should have a crack at this on a national level? How is the best way to attack?. first id be thinking is to gather the info that beech & woodys gathered over the yrs, sit down & have a good read. i remember talking to mr beechy at a club trail ride & he told me that TAS has rec reg, ok so why did they get it?. There seem to be many opinions of why it can't/wont happen but we need to do some hardcore research. (eg) i found this on a gov web site & it interested me because ive "heard" people say quads cant get reg because they dont have a proper class they slot into, (a) "all terrain vehicle" means any type of vehicle propelled by motorized power and capable of travel on or off a highway as defined in the Transportation Act; . Now to me thats a 4wd, that term means a range of different vehicles. This is the research we need to get & study. As i said before some states allow it, ok so find out why it works for them but not for others. I can also see that we are all open to terms & conditions if we got it, who knows we might need to have bikes licences & have all sorts of crap fitted to keep the pollies & govening road bodies happy. Thats something we need to discuss as a group as well, remember beggers cant be choosers. After a great deal of research has been done how should we get the mssg out? my thought was the media, (a current affairs or today, tonight) get the story out there & see what kind of feedback we get, u'll get the pollies saying something & u'll get the publics view aswell, then maybe we get on there & express our opinion of it all. we all know the pollies can make $$$ off us & thats fine with me, part with the $$$ so i can enjoy my sport, small price to pay. My step-father used to work 4 a council in nsw so i asked him what he thought & he believes that its a matter of fighting fire with fire, you must use your oppositions info as basis for the argument. One example he gave me for a good argument is atv's vs trail bikes, they have rec reg in place, are they more dangerous than atv's? if not why?, he said we must focus on the enviroment because thats the hot topic with most issues so we'd need to look into that, he also thought that public opinion will by a key element in this fight. He did also express his comcerns for us as far as gathering the mass's. He said we need clubs & groups to come together, getting all the info, facts, stats, arranging meetings, emails, phone calls the whole bit & i was also warned that this will probably take a very long time!. This is just my view on this subject & i dont have all the facts so im sure that some of u will say im wrong or informed, probably but what im saying is we need to be smart about this & i for one am willing to be a part of this, best of luck to all of us. If i can somehow play a part then ill do my best, i do have a few resourses so i might be able to help in some way, i hope this helps & if i am needed PM me & we'll see what we can do......cheers
