 |
|
Hi all,
I'm trying to gather a group together here in Townsville to meet up and ride once a month. This will be a social group not a club, the rides will be organised to the point of sweepers and first aid essentials ect on hand.
Currently we have four riders including myself who venture out from time to time as a group, and generally ride most of the day. My question here is who else is from Townsville and the surrounding area ?
Next ride is planned at Keelbottom Creek located around 45 mins drive over the top of Harvey's range. The riding area includes sand, sand dunes / hills, rocks, mud and of corse water ! Keelbottom is a fresh water creek so no salt to contend with. This ride has been penciled on the calenda for Sunday the 26th of July. Meet at Keelbottom at 10.00am.
Please drop in and post if your keen to join a social group for monthly outings and adventures.
Cheers

Cool thanks Guy's,
Bradley I'll be in contact with you sometime over the next few weeks.
Everyone else is more than welcome to meet up at Keelbottom at 10.00am, dont worry if your late.
Directions :- Drive up Harvey's Range past the tea rooms, keep on the hiway past the high range (army range) until you hit Keelbottom Creek. It takes approx 45 mins from Willows.
I will transport my quad there in the company ute, it's a Mitsi Triton with " WESTCO TRUCKS " written all over it. The main play area's are located only 10-15 mins ride from the vehicle so no need to take extra fuel ect.
We park off to the left of the bridge, 2wd access is ok but dont venture off the hard pack.
See you all there.
Cheers

Weekend update :-
Weather was spot on with a slight breeze and the sun shinning bright all day. We ended up with 2 680 Rincon's incuding myself, 2 TRX420's and 1 TRX250.
3 of us locals and earthmover who made the trip all the way from Ayr, I hope you enjoyed the day mate as I know we had a ball !!
Yes your right in saying those lads are a bit rough and tough on their gear but always most enjoyable to watch and laugh.
We took off from the car and headed down to the water playground as we put it, most of the creek is around 3-4 foot deep with the exception that drops down to 12+ foot. After crossing the creek the first time we managed to get two bikes accross without dying (mine has a snorkel ), the 250 went in first and had to be pulled out, a TRX 420 made it through second with Lychlan attempting the deeper part on his TRX420 and managed to turn it off just before it gulped a heap of creek water. Ian's Rincon managed to stall a couple of times but made it through and back again without any water drama's. All in all the day went fairly smooth until Bevan decided it was time to show us all how to climb almost a vertical face, well you guesed it ........ Backwards roll down the slope and ended up with flat handle bars, broken POD, cut ignition switch wire and a kinked throttle cable. With some quick bush repairs the boy's had him going in no time. lol We slowly but surely tracked our way back to the vehicles before a beer and heading home.
Thanks again to all who showed up, it was a pleasure .... More is always better !!
Cheers

All good, found the search function
Can I post Images?
Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Therefore you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.some-unknown-place.net/my-picture.gif. You cannot link to pictures stored on your own PC (unless it is a publicly accessible server) nor to images stored behind authentication mechanisms such as Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes, password-protected sites, etc. To display the image use either the BBCode [img] tag or appropriate HTML (if allowed).
Now I just need to find some where to upload my pic's.

Part Group Photo at Keelbottom Creek.
This was taken away from the main river bed, you can see the steep incline behind the boys who are doing the repairs to Bevans 420 as mentioned above.
Bush repairs to get the TRX 420 started and moving again, we were just to far into the scrub to be pulling it up and down hills .... lol
More to come ...... I have to rotate all my uploaded photo's as they all screwed to the right ??? lol _________________ Honda Rincon 680i

And more photo's , the ones taken in the bush are all Keelbottom from Sunday. Unfortionatley I dont have any from in the creek itself.
The others are from my outing with the kiddies on Saturday afternoon.
As you can see, the Lagoon is crystal clear with white soft sand a plenty.
Until next adventure .........

I'm going to head back to the Lagoon this Saturday to suss out the fish situation, and of course enjoy a few coldies whilst I'm at it. If anyone's interested in joining me either drop me a PM and I'll forward my details on or alternativley leave a post on here.
Meeting point is Black River Bridge on the Highway heading North from Townsville. On the Southern side of the Bridge you'll find a dirt service road leading down to the left, follow that until you come to the car park.
The river bed is straight down from there. 10.30am
If your late and no one is at the vehicles you simply go down to the Creek bed and turn right, if you find yourself heading under a train bridge your in the correct direction ! Keep riding along the river until you come accross the Lagoon.
Cheers

Hi Earthmover,
Glad you enjoyed the entertainment layed on by the local lads last weekend. Crazzy isn't the word
Change of plans, going back to Keelbottom with a large group of quads this Saturday afternoon around 2.00pm, the guy's plan on camping there for the weekend. I'll be there until around 7.00pm or so then head back to town.
Sunday is now the day to check out the Barra in the Lagoon at Blackriver, I pickup this afternoon my son's brand new Can-Am DS90 so I'll be teaching him as we go. Taking a friend with me so it's looking like a social day out on Sunday if you can make it.
Cheers

HI there guys , what great pics , looks like you had a blast ,, keep em coming , just one thing, i would like to see the pics but please wear a helmut , would hate to see anyone hurt from not wearing one , as most quad injuries and so forth are from non wearing of helmuts , your choice i know but it makes it look a lot better on the forum and so forth with one on.
Ithink im right in saying that Atv action wont publish pics without riders wearing a helmut.
