I have been riding my raptor and in 5th gear i have noticed that it is skipping gear. It changes all gears perfect up and down. Its like at 85 kays in 5th gear that this seems to happen. All other gears are fine. Its like it changes down gear but i know it isnt cause it isnt reving. Its a jumping or skipping. I changed oil to a Maxima SynBlend 4 10w40w. It seems to have started after i did this. Gradually getting worse after 2 rides with new oil in it. Has anyone else had this problem with 5th gear in the raptors before. Raptor has done 900 kays according to dash. Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you mean that it wont rev any harder in 5th? 700 Raps are speed limited in 5th gear.

It goes alot more than 85 kays though. I have had it up to 120 kays. As soon as it gets to 85 kays it keeps skipping. Like its changing down gears.

I have just noticed after giving it another oil change that it says with filter that they tale 1.85 litres. After adding this much it is only just regestering on the dipstick. This could be the problem. Not enough oil.

maybe if it was an auto but oil level won't make a difference in a manual gearbox. find it hard to believe you have stripped teeth off 5th gear though which is what it sounds like.
Strange that it started after you changed the oil, try changing it back to another oil and see how that goes.

was there any metal in the oil when you changed it?

oh, and don't brake your fancy 09 dash, they are stupidly expensive to buy new as my cousin just found out laughing

No metal in the oil what so ever. I have noiticed though at 1.85 litres its only just regestering on the dipstick. They must hold more oil.

I know it sounds stupid but make sure your boots aren't bumping the gear lever when your riding Hrm that could cause it to jump out of gear..

Some synthetic oils will make bike clutches slip and your saying in 5th thats where the clutch will be under most load.just a thought mate.

How are you checking your oil? Cold or warmed up?

Well went for a ride today. Got the yamalube oil and new filter put in hoping that would fix it. The motorbike shop give me the oil free of charge to. he said let me know if that fixes the problem. It was still doing the skipping. But its doing it earlier now at 65 kays instead of 85 kays. its getting worse. Its just got me stumped. No one seems to know what the problem is or whats causing it. i taking it to motorbike shop next week as its still under warranty. Wont cost me a cent. Will be interesting to see what they find whats causing this annoying problem. Someone did say it sounds like a elctrical problem. I know in 4th gear i can do over 100 kays.

Well finally fixed the problem. gearbox was stripped down and the 5th gear cog was rounded and not meshing right. All under warranty. Will be curious to see if this happens again.

Wow, that's amazing. Did they mention if there was any metal floating around in it?

There was no metal floating around. They said cause you wont find metal cause it wears it shiny round. So u woint get metal. The cogs are already a bit rounded from new. Thats the way they are.
