After five months riding i have cracked my main alloy frame in identical spots on both sides of my frame. tried to get warranty, but was told straight out no from my local dealer in cairns. Its sold as a performance quad but cant handle a 20m jump. And the fun part is that a new frame is $3200.

Did you tell them it was a 20m jump that contributed to it cracking?
If so, that was silly.
Never less, it should be repaired or replaced under warranty.
I'd call Yamaha direct and not take 'no' for an answer.
What's the warranty 6 or 12 months on a 700 Raptor?

No didnt tell them the size of jump, but the bike should be able to handle it considering it has had $10,000 worth of after market elka and houser suspension components added to it, Which has all been set up for my weight. As for warranty if you paid so much extra which i did the bike is covered for 5 years. And yes there has been an email sent directly to yamaha australia.

you can spend 10 times that on elkas and houser stuff for your bike, problem that most people have, as you have now discovered, is that your still bolting it all to the same frame.

doesnt matter if you have elkas or standard shocks, the force from landing has to go somewhere.....

i've had my le 700 raptor for 14months i weigh 110kg i have raced the finke desert race, some of the enduro series in vic & numerous 200k plus trail rides in some of the rockiest "profanity removed" you could ever come accross & she has never missed a beat or cracked anywhere, as a matter of fact sometimes it,s the only bike on our trips that has not had problems. many guys when they buy new bikes to race have to strip them to gussett the frames in certain spots which i thought i would have to do after finke but i pulled it all down & it was as good as gold. maybee i'm not riding it hard enough but so far it's been faultless.

No you just don't jump big enough Matt. Razz Razz Razz Razz

Depends on how your landing froma 60ft jump as to whether your shocks are gonna deal wit hit or not, if your bottoming from a flat landing instead of a down ramp things are going to break no matter what gear you've got on it if you do it all the time.

also you should never use the word jump when your trying to get warranty for broken parts, it's just as bad as saying it was the tree that jumped out in front of you or that you put car engine oil in your gearbox and why does my clutch slip.

We have guy's down here in SA cracking frames all the time, but unless it is badly twisted as well (which I assume you would have mentioned if it was the case) I would just do what we do down here. Strip her down and get her welded. New frames are for when they are beyond repair.

Oh dear, All that metal "down there" has a purpose you know, keeps the "ring gear" clean and not clogged. And as for the back nine, we'll leave that to our mate on the DS.

(you been riding at all latly ??)

Does anyone know if Yamaha has addressed the problem of the frames cracking in later model Raptors?

Hi there
Maybe this frame cracking thing is an isolated thing
I ride a 700 raptor weekly and although I don’t regularly jump any thing over 10 foot I do how ever weight 160kg and give the old girl a hard time
And have no sign of any cracking

thanks huge

Just to throw my 2cents in. Although I ride an LTZ the frame also suffers if you hit LARGE jumps. A gusset kit usually takes care of the weaker points on the frame, and as mention by others if the frame is only cracked not twisted then a gusset kit and welding the crack should be fine. After all if you buy another frame then the same thing could happen again.

My 700 is a november '06 model and has no signs of cracking, have been doing enduro riding and have also had a couple of big spills.
worst damage was the bars and the small pissy brackets at the rear that atach the plastics.
I don't usually do huge jumps though....

Guys,
If you run a thread search on the Raptor Forum you will find that frame cracking from big jumps is not an uncommon event on the 700 regardless of rider weight. In fact there are a number of their forum members who now sell and retrofit gussets to combat this type of damage.
While I am yet to attempt a 20m jump (old and scared) my '07SE has been through some pretty ugly stuff up here in Hedland over the past 6 months without missing a beat and with all parts still attached.

Were the shocks set up for big jumps ,before the jump was attacked? Compression on both Low and High speed wound up Harder ?
The suspension is usually set middle of road .
Did the supplier qualify your needs properly ? Did you request Zero Pre load or Dune edition that take bigger hits better ?Where do you ride mainly and what terrain ? Most people ask for Pro spec shocks thinking they get heavy duty ? They infact get relativly soft set up as the Americans like it soft for the rough to help elimenate fatigue pros also land on the down ramps ,hardly if ever flat landing. So when normal people like you and me Flat they bottom and something has got to give ! Hope this helps and good luck with your claim with Yamaha,be persistant and they should help .

If the frame is cracked, and you have stripped it ... I would get a new one, (warranty), and then gusset the new one ... laughing
