gidday all

any info on a TRX500FE (farm type model) 2005 would be appreciated. Am looking at a very low hour (<200) one for running up and down the beach pulling dinghy etc.

Any issues with this particular model to be aware of?

cheers

It's an anvil......you can hammer it and it wont break.......not real hi-tech though.

The TRX500 is still the No 1 selling quad in the country. Farmers buy them but they also rarely do maintenence and use them until are compleatly flogged out.......farmers do 1000's of km's on these things.

If you find a good '05 model then you shouldn't have any issues for a very long time.

Not so Linc this is a bit of dud model by Honda they have a dodgy gear box. Most of the ones around here (and i'm talking 60+) have broken 2nd gear. But Honda have been fantastic about it and as far as I know they are still fixing them under warranty.

We have one ourselves and it's done over well 20,000kms and over 2000hrs and they are hard hrs too as you would imagine. It's still on original gear box but 2nd gear is stuffed and has been for a long time my dealer told us just to keep riding it untill it stops as we couldn't afford the down time but the bloody thing just wont stop.

We just sold a '07 with 12k on speedo for $5200, we get plenty of them and depending on condition thay sell for 4500 -6000. Watch out for maintenence issues with the Hydrastatic version, the last one we had fail we found you cannot buy parts for the tranny, you have to buy it complete, around 3G from memory!!! Smitty correct about the 2nd gear issue on the footchange model, we've fixed quite a few of them.

whats the repair, what does it involve? Is there an improved part available to overcome the "weakness"?

thanks guys!

one more question though

where (if you can) can you get accessories such as a seat to go on the back rack for the young kids to sit on? Or do you need to make your own?

I know they say no pillions but try telling that to any (or all!) of my kids!

i did see here on ozatv a seat come three storage compartments from the us. for around $600 aus. "plus freight" thay look good but for that money? marine ply, vinyl and some hi density foam. mate! but im shore if you can sit on the rack the kids will happly sit on the seat and ride it for you. laughing

thanks for the ragging guys.
Two up seats seem to be available/supplied for some quads. It didnt seem like a stupid question to me, a newby.

Bike can take over 200kg total and from memory 65kg on the back rack which is over/past the rear wheels so the weight distribution didnt seem like the problem.

Most of these vehicles also say something along the lines of "using non genuine parts or non OEM parts may cause danger etc" but does anyone get ragged for that?

I hear what your saying but you could be a little more tactful.

Yeah.......it's a bit of a sensitive subject over here right now. The coroners report in to deaths on ATV's came out last week. Of 54 deaths 50 of them were due to no helmet, overloading or both.

I'm sure there was no offence intended towards you.

Enjoy your new Honda.

yes I could be more tactful but I'm not... Surprised and I make no apoligies for my views, just like yours, I'm entitled to mine also, I feel that I wasnt attacking your view, but I disagree with it. But its all good. Very Happy

such is life I guess yoggie, Im absolutely certain I will be able to get over it.

But please, if you are going to quote my post, then do not add anything to it, whether words or those stupid little round face things.

Your are defending your right to your own view, and at the same time modifying my view to provide justification for yours.

thanks Linc, your reply was more in keeping with how most people speak in the old way, face to face.
