| I had a predator 500 for a first bike and its a pretty good all round bike. I rode it pretty hard in the time i had it and it never missed a beat. In saying that i wouldnt buy another one and i would probably buy a yfz450. |

| I had a 03 s a great tough old thing, think the 03 (early) ones were a little weak in the gearbox but think later ones are better. They are heavy but good honest workhorse. But after having one then going to a ltr450 i would look at a jap 450, but depends how you cheap you get it. Thats just my 2c , good luck |

So if i want a good tough quad but dont mind it being a little heavy as i'll never be an A grade racer and would prefer not to be rebuilding engines every few months the fuji powered predetor is the best bet??
I'm around 95 kgs and not real fit but still ride for the buzz of it. I have lost the nerve with racing 2 wheelers but am hoping 4 will be a little safer and less hard on the body. I have the unpaid mortgage fears. So what i want is a quad to go to the dunes on, do a bit of enduro ,MX, Trail ride etc and also do a bit of shooting from it seems this is a good choice.
I had a good look around predetor.com and people seem happy in general with them it seems that problems only arise once you start to hot them up. In general if you leave them standard they give long trouble free service is that a fair statement ???

I believe its about 3 years old has only done about 10 hrs work is in like new condition and the fella is asking around $6500-7000.
Would that be considered a good price apparently it cost around $14000 new.

| Id say thats a bit rich, seeing as you can get a 450mxr for $8995 with a KTM motor brand new. For the money you want to spend you could get a yfz450 or a trx, even a raptor that someone has spent money on.......thats just my opinion |

seems a bit steep to me also, there are a lot of 06, 07 quads with under 30 hours around for around the $7000 mark all with extras and probably better buys, and as was said new polaris's can be picked up for a little more . I sold my 03 pred , which had a brad new gearbox , piston rings and was very tidy for $4000.
Even if he says its done less than 10 hours remember its still 3 years old.
id try for $5500 |

I know the quad Banshe172 is talking about and it has done Finke, National MX, lots of enduros and countless hrs of trail rides and it is still on original piston, rings and valves. He did a gear box recently but mainly through not using clutch to shift.
I have had two of these quads and loved them. Both stock standard motors and good enough to get third at Finke and win a 35+ vet MX national title, so they are not slow. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

| John your from SA I reckon you'd know the bike I'm talking about, it is Danny Penraat's Predetor 560 that I'm looking at it seems to be like new and he has all the PP race extras on it. Scooter offered me an 08 450 MX about $8500 but it has no reverse and the high maintainence KTM donk I know they are quick but the maintainence for me would get old really fast. I want the XR600 of the quad relm. Its seems that those that have them like them and get a good run out of them I'll guess I better head back in and show the man some money. |

An 450 MXR for $8,995 is an absolute bargain. Maintainance is the same on all these quads. Regular oil changes and filter service with a valves clearance check every so often.
I am not sure about which one of Dannys quads you are talking about. He has so many that I have trouble knowing what he has at the moment. One thing I know is that Danny is good at maintaining his machines.
You really cant go wrong with either machine.
If you are after the XR600 of quads the closest thing is the air cooled Honda 400EX. Great machine but have heard of head gasket issues when people try an squeeze big bore kits and cams into them.
I hope I have not confussed you too much. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Scooter sorry I must have misheard you I was asking alot of questions I was the guy that pulled up out front with the tracked cat skidsteer was asking about a quad for shooting. I thought you said the run out model you had didn't have reverse and would need new tyres for the trail stuff I was going to do. My bad.
John Mags confusion is all a part of buying I started out after a shooting quad but now i'm thinking I wanna do a bit of everything so thats when I looked at the predetor. A new 450 is out of my price range but really so is the predetor but i could sqeeze what he is asking so that is what this is all about trying to ensure its a good choice. As mentioned there are plenty of Jap bikes for $5500 ish but are they gonna cost me the extra $1000 to fix prior abuse and wear and tear in which case i should buy Danny's and just stop being a JEW!!!
In general everyone has said that they are a good honest bike so that pretty much seals it for me my only concern was the big bore kit as there are a few issues reported on the predetor site.
Anyway I'll make a decision soon |
