hey Guyes...I'M looking at bying the new ds450 x mx in a week or 2, Does anyone know if the ds450 x mx suspention is a full long travel set up or would you still need to by new LT A-Arms and shocks to acheivre a LT setup.
They don't state long travel in the specs but ive read in a magazine that it has LT setup standared....Just wondering so i don't go and by arms and shocks if it already has good LT shocks n A-Arms.
Cheers Ryan!... _________________ Everybody dies....But not everybody lives.

The shocks are 19 1/2" long, that's considered LT in anyones book.
There's no need to replace the front end...its good gear. We are getting great results for all types of riders from just a revalve and clicker adjustment on the shocks. _________________ www.quadsquad.com.au

Thanks for your help guyes i didn't know that it was the stroke legth of the shock that determand if it was LT i thought it was how much wheel travel the bike gets....now i understand if the shock stroke is longer your shock can have more room to work or if im right a shorter stroke shock would have to be set up absouluetly perfect for the rider to perform as good as a longer stroke shock as the short stroke shock has less room to perform ??? am i on the right trak.

The suspension is very long travel and super smooth.
It took me a while to get used to. First I thought the bike looked high, but then if you run low compressions and pre-loads you can have the bike bellying out on big landings.
Having said that, the High and low seed adjustments front and rear make huge differences.
I could easily tune an XMX to just bottom out for MrsB's 60kg or for my 90kg.
If you are much heavier than 90kg you may want to go up on the rear spring rate if you are jumping big.
The A-arms are a top piece of engineering and look as good as anythng the aftermarket could come up with, so you will definitely not need to replace them.
The 09 XMX supension is a lot more plush than the 08 X model and soaks everything up a lot better.
How heavy are you?
And what sort of riding are you doing? _________________ Can-Am X Team

Hey... I'm 67kg and i do alot of trail ridding( not so much tight trail ) and wide open twisty dirt roads, but im trying to get into mx and do alot more jumps... the 08 ds 450 was running out shock soak up and i was looking to have to by a better setup for it but now im looking at the 09 i didn't want run into the same prob...I'm getting the 09 for the upgrades so i wanted to know if the upgrades were as good as they look on papper
I had the 08 ds 450x and the shocks were better then any other stock shocks ive riden but the comp and rebound didn't seem to make much diferance all they seemed to do was "click " ha ha .... Do the new shocks respond to the comp and rebound addjustment.

Yes the compression adjusters make a very noticable difference.
I got really good results out of my 08 X model in QRCV Production trim...
but really, between MrsB's 08 bike and mine, we ran different oil weights and only just got close to our ideal settings at opposite extreme adjustments.
A Pre-prodution XMX came to Australia late last year and it did not have as good adjustment range either, but they greatly improved that in the 09 production models.
You will find the adjustments cover a much bigger range.
At your weight and type of riding I would imagine you would have heaps of room to move (your preference).
One tip though, from the factory the rear ride height seems quite high (not much sag).
Don't be scared to knock a heap off the rear preload and rely more on the compresion adjusters to prevent bottoming.
If you do lower the back, maybe start with about 8 clicks of 'H' on the low speed compression, and 1 full turn off 'H' on the high speed.
I'd guess if yuo do a lot of high speed trail stuff...
Try to get your compression controlled mainly with the low speed adjusters (inner) and leave the high speed off as much as possible to smooth out the small but quick high speed hits.
Mainly on the front.
It will ride a lot smoother.
QuadSquad would be the best one to talk to, hes in the middle of setting up a dozen X Team bikes.
The recomendations he's made for mine have been 99% spot on (Buggered if I know how anyone can know where to start so accurately). _________________ Can-Am X Team

Thanks heaps bullet i realy apreciate it mate!
Its exciting getting into suspention setup... so much to learn, I never had a quad before the 08 ds 450 that had any other addjustment except preload so its all new to me and the08 ds alowed me to start experementing, but im looking forward to learning as much as i can about sespention setup...Thanks for your tips they will big time

| Just a general question, has any one got one of the 09 can ams, other than the pro's? i have one ordered and am waiting for it to arrive. I myself personally cant wait, but as with everything, you hear mixed reports, but each person is entitled to there own opinion. All the 450's are on par with each other really, the can am just comes with a few extra's which you would just end up buying for any of the other 450's, other than the KTM, for which i know i cant afford. |

I think they come to Aust in container loads of 18.
The first 18 went real quick, BRP international are having trouble keping up with demnd globally.
As always, Australia is only a small customer, but I heard that the next batch would be here by now, so you might not have to wait too much longer if you can get one out of that lot. _________________ Can-Am X Team

Yeah, I know what you mean.
A heap of X Team bikes were ordered in November, and they came in 2 weeks before the Tri-States late Feb.
Some riders only had them less than a week.
There were XMX's out there racing with reflectors still on
