if you look at the start of the thread he asks for more power.
i suggested a crf450 motor which would surely be the most cost effective reliable way to make decent power out of a 250 size quad.

$1200 from ebay seems a lot better then a full rebuild with a stroker kit etc.

In this case a rebore rebuild would be a lot cheaper Dangerman.
The TRX250EX is a shaft drive.
Assuming others can do the engine swap engineering is a big step and then he'd have to do a swing arm and rear end conversion too.
He'd be better of buying 450 laughing

Don't get me wrong, I love the way you think quads though.

The 250's go really well for what they are and they are super comfy.
they're very easy to ride and the best thing for pulling monos...
(real people monos, way way below 200kmh laughing )

When are you making a real (and legal) speedway quad DM?

Ahem;

Firstly...dangerman4, no offence man, but back off a bit.

He sounds like a young fella, I think we can establish that by the size of bike he's riding. He said he wants a bit more power, not go to the moon.

A bike that revs to 17,000 rpm and puts out over 100 HP....where on earth do you suggest we would ride a bike with such power?
Sand dunes? until someone dies.
Out in the bush? until someone dies.
On an MX track? impossible!
On a 1/4 mile drag strip? Yes.
OK, that's great. You go ride insanley powerfull bikes up a drag strip and leave the rest of us to ride mostly mundane quads in a moslty mundane but fun fashion and we'll all get along just great.


Now, young fella. There has been two very good suggestions put up.

One is a pipe/filter/jetting kinda thing, the other is a big bore & ported head.

When you get sick of that, a Honda or Suzuki 400 might be more in line with what you're after.

Good luck with whatever you do and keep safe. Honda have a pretty good slogan that goes with some of their advertising in the US.

nope, i suggested a pipe and filter and to save his pennys for a real 450, with chassis, suspension and brakes to match the power!

i agree, modifying the original engine too much is a bit pointless.

i dont know much about them but ill bet my bottom dollar that you can buy cams, big bore kits, stroker cranks, pipes carby's and ported heads, all the same stuff that you buy for any other motor, but do you really wanna spend all that money on a shaft drive trx250ex?

shaft drive hey.. woops maybe i should have checked that first.

has he mentioned his age or weight anywhere?
i find it hard to justify spending $2k - $4k on mods to a bike that he has probally allready outgrown, to gain less then 10hp.

and bullet i have the frame etc here for my new bike just waiting on the engine.
its gonna cost a bit more as this v twin was only produced 08 onwards.
but the finished product will be well worth the outlay, and will still be less then $15k completed.

I go for a troll around this joint when i want to know whats around for different quads should give you some sort of idea what you can get for the trusty old trx250

I agree with not going near the bottom end etc etc.
If you get into that sort of money you should look at upgraing.

Here is one of thoe big bore kits for $330 US...

I know the EX feels like a low compression engine to ride and reckon the 10.8:1 compression increase would offer a sportier engine response combined with a 10% displacement increase to improve grunt.

Just knock the sharp edges out of the ports and match to the manifolds while the head is off, don't go paying for a flow bench.

Pipe and rejet if you want... and you're done.
Don't spend too much more, just ride it and have fun Smile

If you are serious put it on a dyno before you do anything.

Then put it on Zacs dyno and it will make 10hp more!!!

Only cost 2 dyno runs and you got 10hp....Simple really
