 |
|
My recent purchase of my Banshee has been time spent with a few outings but mostly time looking it over & replacing worn out parts. The kick starter had a real annoying constant rattle, I replaced the Oring that it seats on & bit of water resistant grease on the shaft & no more rattle.
I removed the rear axel wire brushed & greased the spines, drained & blead through new brake fluid front & back. Drained coolant replaced with Motul coolant.
The engine was rebuilt & has only done aprox 50hrs running time, runs very good, full choke one kick & she's away from dead cold "love it".
I am really happy with the engine performance, but the bike shop that i have been buying my parts from say to put a set of pipes on it & it will be a differant bike again power wise, he said approx 20Hp gain. Is this true or is there more to it than pipes, I have read that some pipes come with bigger jets.
The plastic fenders/guards are scratched up a fair bit & the front mud guards have been cut off with a bit guard cut on an angle & looks a bit back yard like, is there a better way of this being done without looking ferral. I was thinking of replacing the front guards but the colour is fading overall on the guards so it may stand out even worse.
Is there a way of filling the scratches in or something that stops them standing out so much, I was thinking of a sticker kit but that won't cover all the scratches. Or is there a plastic rejuventator/polish to keep my plastic looking like new & help hide the scratches.
Any advice on my YFZ350N Banshee would be appreciated, but i have the aim in mind that what ever i change & do i want to keep it's reliablity for my wife & I's outings.
Hopeing for feed back
Cheers Gary.
P.S Picking up an engine hour meter tomorrow ( if in stock) & changing gearbox oil with Motul 10w/30. It had run on Motul products all it's life so i'll keep it that way for now. _________________ 2001 Yfz350N Banshee

get used to the kickstarter, they are all like that. i did the same thing to mine, but got tired of doing it after the 3rd time, everyone has their own fix... and changing the spring to something a little more stiffer also helps.
pipes will deffinently make it a new bike, as for 20 horses i dont think so, but some pipe manufactures do claim a 20% power increase. a different set of pipes can be had for about $1000 or you might find a second hand set for $500 or less. be carefull of what brand tho, not every pipe makes good power and some are a waste of money, a set of pipes can also change your power and where your powerband hits. depending on what type of riding and what type of power you want will determine what set of pipes will suit you.
if your after a screamer, dmc's or toomeys are the way to go, paul tuner mids are low mid range pipes. they are the only three i've had experience with, others will tune in and give you more opinions. if you change pipes you will need to rejet your carbies, a few set's of jets and you will be on your way.
when i bought my banshee the plastics were very faded and sad, i used a product called plastic renew from PC racing, but if your not willing to spend the hours (and i mean at least 6+ hours) sanding the plasics back it wont work and you might as well just buy another set. the advantage to buying another set of plastics is you will have a choice of colours to make yours stand out from the crowd!
most bolt on mods will keep your banshee reliable, even a 4mill stroker will be reliable if set up right on standard premium...
good luck and welcome to the forum _________________ 01 Banshee

Thanks for your reply doorslammer, I really love to tinker so buying this bike is really down my alley. You say a set of pipes for $1000 Hmmmm can you point me in the right direction as to were to buy,I am very interested in endro events in the future, but i will need to get out their more & skill up a bit on my Banshee ( but thats all the fun).
Gave the pastic a bit of a rub today with "Meguiar's Gold Class Trim Detailer" came up a little better. I think i'd go for new plastic later on as time sometimes isn't on my side, again where to buy the new plastic from would be great as well.
Pipes: Do I need to get it professionally tuned if i whack a set of new pipes & jets in??? or is it easy enough to do myself.

a set of pipes can be had from most places, toomeys from jmc.com.au, dmc's from hardimanatv.com.au and paultuners from legendquads in WA.
explosiveracing, lukebeechy motorsports, quadsquad are some other places. what ever pipe you decide on most shops will be willing to get you a set.
when i bought my set of pipes about a year ago the economy was in great shape and i got a brand new set of dmc's from the states for $800. but due to the "profanity removed" dollar, most retailers will be asking a bit more now i presume because a set of toomeys on us ebay is now around $1000. but you will need to call and find out.
(a fair bit more then it was a year ago... http://www.jmcracing.com.au/site/details.cfm?productIDNum=464 )
i also know jmc still has a brand new white front plastic for a banshee. otherwise call any of the sellers and the should be able to get an aftermarket set in almost any colour you want.

jetting is simple but require a bit of time and understanding. with a set of pipes most people will get you in the ballpark then its only a couple of plug chops and mabe a change and your done. if you get stuck you do a search on bansheehq.com and millions of threads will come up.
a few good links

Ive got ProCircut pipes and silencers on my banshee and they made it super aggressive up high but lost some off the bottom so you have to keep it up in the revs _________________ Has turned to the Dark Side! |

that is quite the opposite of what some guys have found when dyno testing the pro-circuits against other pipes, apparently they found that the pro circuits produced the most torque. i have never tried them tho so cant really comment.
i have tried the following on my bansh:
FMF Fatty
FMF SST
Toomey T5
CPI
FMF's were good, but liked the T5s better for all types of riding, CPIs were useless on a stock motor.
DMC's are a good pipe too, my mate tried my T5s and DMCs on his bike on the same day and liked the DMCs better.
try and ride a few banshees with different pipes b4 you buy some.
