I own a grizzly and ride with sand shoes some of the time, Is this bad? I reckon the grizzly has plenty of protection.
I guess I`m looking for bad stories...
p.s. I can understand wearing boots on quads with just pegs. |

personally I'd wear full bike boots regardless but at an absolute minuim a good pair of blunneys, but the bike boots at most offer shin and ankle protection. IMO and as for horror storys, I've not heard of one...yet thankfully. _________________ 2005 KFX700

When Bullet and I went up to Cape Yorke to film out last movie, I rode a Can-am Outlander 800 Max XT. I took my MX boots, but thought I would be fine in my Hi-Tec Magnum hunting boots. They are fairly high, but they are mesh sided, not unlike Blunnies (which are elastic sided). 100m up the telegraph track and I tipped her over sideways in a huge 4x4 rut and pinned my leg to the embankment. Everyone said it was piss funny to watch because it all happened so slowly, but because I didn't have my MX boots on, I did a bit of damage to my calf muscle. I still have a dead spot in the muscle, and that was almost a year ago. That was the first and last time I ever rode without my MX boots on.

| with the protection that good mx boots offer you would be silly not to wear them. Theres a video on youtube of a guy whos lower leg got ripped apart from the foot peg when he crashed. A pair of boots would have saved his leg! just my thoughts anyway..... |

I had ALL my gear on except my boots. thought blunnys would be ok for a quick ride with a mate. A large peice of shail came back of my front wheel and cut through my pants then down to my shin bone about 100mm long. Had I had my boots on, all I would be up for was some stitches in my pants insted of my 8 in my leg. Done by Mrs Rosco back at camp by the way. Photos available.
SO, go with the MX style boots I say.
Cheers...Rosco _________________ Mine:- 2008 700 Raptor

my youngest brother would always ride in work boot the elastic sided steel cap ones with jeans and bum shirt, on many times i had a go at him about his riding habits with his reply she be right im tough till about 2 months a go, he came off in a big way braking a coulpe of ribs as he smashed in the the handle bars on his way over them and running over him self damaging his wrist and tearing up a carf. He now wont go out riding with out his full gear funny thing was he has all the gear but would never wear it and he is still sore. Its a hard lesson he learned
crazy ppl ride in sand shoes wether on a quad or bike, get your self some boots and protection! Our eldest brother is also in a wheel chair from doing silly things you never know when you will become the passager no longer in control of things.
Every one comes off at some time |

i just wear a pair of converse, they go right up my shin, just like an mx boot, they are leather too.
Would it be a good idea to get MX boots? (i ride on pegs)
i have heard about someone who's foot fell off the peg, dunno how it happened cos they are all well serated, his leg got wrenched underneath the pegs and heel gaurds or something
have no idea if it is true, suposedly it happened in america.
anyway, any1 think mx boots are what i should get? |

I'd reccommend wearing full MX boots. I've had countless times where a stick or rock has been thrown off a front wheel and right into my shin. Boots definitely saved me from injury. And getting you're foot dragged under the pegs does happen. It happened to one of my mates once when he landed awkward and slipped a foot off. Didn't cause any injury though luckily. Nerfs are also a good idea for more protection but I'm lazy and without reverse I like to use my feet to push backwards rather than getting off the Banshee. _________________ 2005 Banshee Special Edition

I had a 20mm stick come up through the floor boards of my old kodiak, but at the end of the day you need to work out whats best for you and go with that. Me myself, I would never ride ANY quad with out full mx boots, you get a half decent stick come through your calf, ankle etc your gunna need months off work... think about it, I could not afford a month off work because I didnt want to wear/buy decent foot wear. _________________ 2005 KFX700

Brumpy, just like you said, no side protection with foot boards.
Check my post up a bit in this thread if you haven't already.
MX boots are worth it.

Used to ride in elastic sided boots. My quad doesn't have full nerfs and going up a really steep sandy hill when my foot slipped off and went under the back wheel. Ripped my boot off, ripped my sock of and then started digging into my foot. Now if i'm going for a decent ride i always wear full boots. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"
