g'day all, having a problem still with the 700 kingquad, pointing at a fuel pump issue, does anyone know if I can run a different type brand of pump? (read cheaper!) had a look on nyroc and no joy there, any ideas? cheers _________________ 'how do you make so many mistakes in one day? (I get up early!)

Hi Keeg, this could be handy,
Stats are, k5 700, 1100hrs, 15000kms, no engine noises, doesn't burn oil ect, basic problem is it seems to be lean? winds over for up to 10 seconds to start, but if I turn the key on then off a couple times before cranking (only running the fuel pump) it will start in a couple of winds. When running it is fluttery on a touch of the throttle, this does improve as the bike gets hot. When riding if I held it open it go but will go better if I back the throttle off about a quater? If held flat it will get bauky every now and then up to top speed then flatten out (just like a lean out) if I ease off the thunb it will pick up more speed. It also will run hot if tried to ride hard for a while. This problem get worse as the tank level gets lower, until about half a tank, it's then not bearable and needs to be filled up. So it all points at a fuel related problem, I have checked the fault codes and all ok, had the tank out and cleaned ect, checked battery voltage, ect, that is problem 1!.
next issue is,
I rolled it a month ago and now when ever I turn anything on the handle bars on I loose the dash display? like if the horn is pressed it goes out, lights turned on it goes out, the display will stay off until the bike is re-started and then it will be back again. this was also effecting the fan, when the fan kicks in the display will go, the fan will only run at a slow pace if this happens, I hard wired the fan to a seperate switch to get away with it while I was camping but now i'm home I'll be trying to get to the bottom of everything. hope to get some tips. cheers _________________ 'how do you make so many mistakes in one day? hey
well we have had lots of fuel problems all i can think is that the fuel filter on the fuel pump may be blocked the omly real way to check is to check fuel pressure getting to the throttle body, it may also be that the throttle possition sensor is out of adjustment and also could be worn butterfly shaft in throttle body.
with the dash dropping in and out we have had a few bikes do it and all were because of broken and corroded wires in the loom. at one point in the loom there is 6 power wires comming off one in the loom this join seems to be a problem
if ya want to talk just call rightline motorcycles on (03) 58523142 and ask for keegan |

I had similar dirty fuel problems with the Renegade in Safari Makes for sad delivery).
We found that replacing the tea bag filter in the tank or slitting it open fixed the problem.
Worse at half tank and OK when full, is a classic for low low fuel pressure and it's just the greater pressure head that helps the pump out.
I'de check all filters first, then Fuel pump max pressures and delivery as per the book.
Ring Keegs for all that.
I guess low voltage to the fuel pump could cause lowere delivery too.
So maybe you need to load test various points of your electrical system too.
Not just a voltage test, you need to measure at electrical load (this can be done fairly simply with something like a std 55W headligth globe in series if you don't have a trick multi meter).
As always, I'll be very interested in what you find.
Please post the answer back up when you are done. _________________ Can-Am X Team

The symptoms for your dash could also be as simple as a faulty earth, most common overlooked problem. _________________ 10 LTR 555 Dingo

| most common problem is dirt gone through fuel system, especially farm quads, I've been told a '06 GSXR fuel filter fits the King Quad, we are trying one next week, should be able to verify that then. We had one that badly clogged with dirt you could have grown spuds in the bottom of the fuel tank!! also clean the filter at the injector. Symptoms of blocked injection on LTA are stammer or sluggishness when opening throttle off idle, hard cold starting. |

| hey wadey we tried some of the gsxr filters and we found that they let to much fine stuff through and chopped out the pump. we also fitted a few in line fuel filters from cars but found that they were to restrictive and lowered fuel pressure to much. we have also been moving the tank breather so is it sucks clean air not dust circulating under rear guard. |

ok fellows, update time, The dash issues all stemed from a bad earth from under the plastic above the motor where the earths branched off, that was causing all sorts of problems, but it was found and fixed. the bike was still fluttery, adjusted the throttle position sensor up to the high side and seemed to sort it out a bit but when tested the TPS voltages were all over the place compared to the book ,so I will be putting a new one in and see how that goes, the pump flows all tested fine, filters good ect, I have cracked the back of the dash last roll over so I found a new piece on alpha-sports, on it's way. Thanks again to all who commented and helped out, I broke my collar bone when I rolled it so a good mate/mechanic is doing all the work for me, thanks goose (he may even join up) cheers _________________ 'how do you make so many mistakes in one day?
