http://www.mcnews.com.au/latest.htm
write-up and some photos here

track was prepped a week before and we had rain
thought that would give - it best chance to hold together
but Saturday got rough real quick
like,,no-one had every seen-it that rough
we all hoped for some serious loader driver action,,, and we weren’t disappointed
track was prepped mint again Sunday morning
the sand must have dried-out or somethin, but it held together heaps better Sunday
compare 2nd moto laptimes on Saturday across the class's with moto 5 on Sunday

Oz titles went all over Australia
The acceptance speeches were classic
Stand-outs
Chris B needs to go to the USA, he’s a freak
Ant Yewers reached the legends hall of fame of quad racing,, 2 class’s pro’s and vets and somebody can tell the story about passing everyone with a flat tyre,,, I didn’t see-it,,only heard about –it,,lots
Jeanette Lindsey,,, bloody nora, how good is she??
Cameron Wade,,,, Holy crap
Luke G just blasted them
Those 90’s had-it fairly tough
Congratulations all for competing and making the trip
There’s gunna be some absolute classic DVD action to come outttta that one

here come the photo's

Great Weekend - fabulous weather, sorry we cant say "fabulous Track", thought it would hold up pretty well but I guess lack of real rain didn't help the matter either.

Congrats go to all the Eastern States riders, congrats on making the trip as we know its a long one. Good to have so many people there and what an audience we had on Sunday, my god it was good to look down the start straight and see all those people that had come to watch just us the quads race.

Len thanks to you yes the cupboard is a bit bear and I mean a bit only - the floor well thats all clean now, the dogs helped alittle on that one, wondered why they looked lethargic on Monday morning???????

Hope everyone had fun around the fire, judging by my recycle bins, yeas more than one, they are chockers full.

Sorry I got a bit short at 3.30am in the morning though, just needed to get some sleep and wasn't prepared to sleep until the last one was in the house, so I hurried the stragglers along with a few short colourful words. 5 in the loungeroom, just imagine this on the loungeroom floor - Lance, Smithy, Mick, LukeB and Victor, snuggling up to each other (nah not a pretty thought). Quite and orchestra going through out the small whee hours on the morn, couldn't pin point who was the loudest snorer. Don't know if they slept or were just unconcious thru alcohol consumption and the after fumes. Smithy got up in the morning and stggered out the back to where we were all sitting and preceded to get himself a drink, no not the usual hot early morning drink, he had to have a green tinny (Cougar I think) yep 8am ooohhh yuk.

All were on the road about 11am I think, ready for the long haul back, Pete W was driving by himself, not a trip to do with no company but was going to catch LukeB and Victor up after he dropped Mick off at the airport and travel with them. Haven't heard so I'm hoping they are nearing the end of there travels back in Vic.

Will post over guys all the stuff you neglected to take home with you, the usual clothese etc.

Mick 47 Ind it was great to have you and PeteW to stay, dont rely on Lance to let me know though, it will never happen. Will enjoy those mud slides now, thank you.

Cant wait to see all the photo's that you guys would have taken, let us know when they are ready and send me a pm please.

Congrats and roll on next year, ???where will it be????? I know LubeB and ChrisB will be there.

PS Chris is off alcohol permanently, it was all too hard for him the next morning, he couldn't remember a thing but I'm sure the video footage will tell us more???????????????????????sshhhhh

Cheers everyone and thank you for making it a success.

PS smithy we've shifted the slide but the moring balls still remain.

Thanks for the hospitality Mrs. B.
Luke and Vic rocked up on my doorstep in Adelaide at 4:30 this morning, but Pete had a blowout on the trailer......then another one, just this side of Ceduna, so he pulled in to get it sorted and I expect him back here this arvo some time.
I got some fantastic footage from the racing, but most of the footage from Sunday night is.....well.....not in the best interest of the sport to be publically viewed, if you know what I mean. I'm not chucking it out though. Who knows, when Chris goes to the states and makes it big as a pro rider, people will pay thousands to see him giving himself an Atomic Wedgie"! It's amazing what a guy will do with only 2 JB&coke's under his belt.
You guy's and gals put on a great show, and an even better race event. Hold your heads high, you should be proud of yourselves.

This is the first time I can lift my arms high enough to type anything.

Well done W.A. for running a fantastic event very profetional indeed. To all the organizers who got the show up and running give your selves a pat on the back, even though i'm still pissed at you for makeing me take my bumpers off but thats another issue.

Congrats to Chris and the rest of the Brenton team you deseve the win more than anyone else, I know what it's like to compete with a busted leg. Also Congrat to everyone else that competed and did well on that track. I think everyone agreed that it was the best track in OZ for the first race but the worst by the time they got back out there for the next.

Thanks again to the Brentons for the after party although I don't remember much (not sure if it was because of the beer or that bloody moring ball or maybe head butting the dirt off the slide) but I know it was a good time anyway.

You can read my press release of the event here or just follow my links through the 47 Industries web site

Just didn’t feel like no ordinary race meet
Tension was high
People were nervous
There were 3 Suzuki LTR-450’s in podium position for scrutineering & sign-on
Dammit, my yami had come 4th already and I’d only slept 30 foot away
Bikes were started
Kill switches were been tested
Full safety gear was been inspected
“Do you have a back protector” Mr Suzuki,,,,, “yes my body armour”
“no a back protector”
the motorcycling manual was being re-read and furiously flicked through
There was trouble
First bike wasn’t getting through
Maybe 60 to 70 % of us didn’t have back protectors
Meeting was to be cancelled
There was some run and stun high powered conversations
Commonsense prevailed
Bikes started to move through
Not without the usual
Can’t kick it over, can’t start-it,,,er it’s flooded
Kill switch is temporarily dirty or something
Oohh my batteries flat
That body piercing Blingstar is too sharp, please change-it

I didnt want my first post after the nats to be like this but here goes any way,

on the blingster bumper issue, I can't respect the desicision made to make the riders remove the Blingstar Iron Cross and Victory bumpers when it was handled so badly, not only was there no notification that we would not be allowed to use these bumpers, I was blatantly lied to telling me that there had been. Never was the NQAC or any of the participants in the event officially informed that there would be a problem with the 2 bumpers in question or given any exlplanation other than they were deemed to be unsafe by one person. The only reason we had spare bumpers to put on was that there had been some rumours going around about the WA committee trying to ban them but once again there was no OFFICIAL notice ever given.

End Rant.

Thanks again to the Brentons for their hospitality over the week we were there, Leanne for feeding us and Lance for all the gratuitious arse baring ( cant wait for the next Thumb Pump to come out)

The trip home was well, interesting to say the least.

Could get hold of LB or Vic all day on monday until dinner time when we arrangeed to meet up at the fraser range station for the night but thanks to donkey boys dud directions I missed them and didn't end up seeing them until just passed the SA border. The boys stuck with all the way through to Ceduna where we stopped for dinner and the mobile's finally got into range, after heaps of calls to assure everyone at home that we were OK we set off aiming to get to Adelaide by about 3am that was until 35k's out of Ceduna when Vic called up on the 2 way saying that there was smoke coming out from the trailer. Bastard, blew a left fron tyre, stuffed the left rear tyre when the whole weight of that side of the trailer sat on it. put the spare on and sent the lads on their way to Adelaide with the intention of limping back to Ceduna for the night and sorting out some tyres in the morning. Wrong, another blown tyre (the spare I had just put on would you believe) Bastard S*** F**K and a few other words that I can't use in public, start pulling the blown tyre off again and a woman pulls up to see if I need some help, says she might know some guys down the road that would have some tyres, makes a call, 5 mins later a fella turns up in a beat up 75 series cruiser and says " grab your wheels and hop in, we'll go find some tyres" followed by "do you drink rum"

Back we go to the farm he works on ( about 3 k's) and start looking for some tyres, find a couple that look likley so we fit them up (just like changing big quad tyres really) and head back to the trailer. An inch to big to fit under the guards, bugger. Back to the farm, more rum, more tyres, this time the boss farmer comes out and says that there are some smaller one's on a different shelf, bonus, fit them up (getting good at this now) and back to the trailer, tyres on, I'll brign the trailer back to the farm to check it out hey. Tow it back, jack it up, these axles are shagged. F***.

Pull the axles out and make some repairs (hope this will get me to Adelaide) 3:30 am trailer is back on its wheels and heading for Port Augusta (Thanks Gerard Lynch and Rick for helping me out). Roll into PA after stopping for a sleep near Iron Knob. trailer brakes are locking up, rear axle has died again, this is getting way too hard, I've had 6 hrs sleep in the last 2 nights and really don't feel like dealing with this again. (did I mention I'm also half a day behind by now too) F**it, find an Enginneer that will look at it. 6hrs later the engineer has it sorted and modified as requested so it will hopefully make the trip home. 9pm wed finnaly pull into Adelaide, lets check this whole thing over again, more cracked sprig hangers. (not the ones you welded up though Wes) Chuckles gets out the welder and gussets up the hangers, bed time finally. Uneventfull the rest of the way home really, back to Smittys by 5:30 thursday and finaly home at my place by just after midnight. Couple of hours sleep and back to work. Van gets broken into and my compressor and half my tools taken. great, what a week.

Pete

just a thought, if it's got pointy bits or sharp edges it's prolly gunna hurt someone if it hit's them. bling is best left for the show and shines and commonsense and safety should prevail at either race meetings or any close riding activity. we all love to ride but i'm guessing we also enjoy the ability to drink alkies and talk "profanity removed" with our mates afterwards whilst in a relative state of physical comfort, as opposed to spending time in a casualty ward getting stitches inserted (or worse). think ahead guys, the governing bodies are heading down a path of tighter safety guidelines and if we use a little einstein fodder the transition from current thought processes to sensible risk management will be fairly painless.

just to get your minds stimulated on what may be an issue in the future, the subject of chain guards has been touched on in some circles albeit small ones. now i'm NOT saying it will be an issue, i'm just suggesting that if we start thinking about it now then if/when the subject is broached we will have a head start in assisting to guide the authorities via the nqac in a direction that best suits practicality and safety.

i'll just go sit in the corner now and wait for the hot heads to react

seems everyone relates all the stuff whats goin on in usa so i will to now

the blingstars are ok over there why not here

pointy bits hmm look at the stock bumper on a yfz notice the plate in the centre is downwards in a point and of thin steel very similar in shape to the victory bumper

were anyone running a stock yfz bumper made change it or tape it up ??

didnt think so

just my thoughts on the issue

and yes i do run a blingstar bumper iron cross Razz

What rules and sub rules govern MWA being Mortorcycling WA do not necesarily follow thru to other states, yes the Bling Star bumpers are run in USA, WE are not and most definately never will be the "USA" but safety is a factor and as quoted in the "GCR's" which everyone that races and has a lic will know the rule states NO sharp or protruding "extreminities".

We can argue until the cows come home, (sorry Smithy for the punt) WA have chosen that rule for MX only, for the safety of all riders both senior and junior to novice, not freestyle and other disciplines. Racing is fast and getting faster as we all know riding any bike whether 2 or 4 may and can cause maiming and even death, without having added worries of a rider over jumping a jump and landing on the back of another rider with a possible sharp object digging in. Please sit back and consider the consequences if it happens to be your son or daughter or best mate on the other end, I know I could not live with that if it was something that was allowed because it "looks good" and not looked at for the possibilities that it may be unsafe.

Every other state will have thier own regulations that will differ from others. We progress thru each year and hopefully work for better results and conditions, more riders and more events.

Apart from that all in all The Nationals 2006 were a hoot. A lot of good memories of the preceeding weeks leading up to it, and having Victor and LukeB, PeteW and Mick47 Ind, GeeTee, Ray and Jake all staying under our tiny little roof, oh and Smithy on the last night, probably cos he wouldn't have know where he really was, they all had hopefully a lot of fun. They even had time to relax and see Jackass2 and visit the Burswood Casino, luck Im sorry wasn't on there side, some-one else made the millions of thier losses.

We look forward to next year and whom ever is holding the next one we will be there.

Cheers

The blingstar bumpers come to a point but they realy are not sharp, the iron cross isnt I know that for a fact, Dads got 1 Very Happy

If you get hit hard anough for those 'sharp' corners/points to cut you or do any damage I think you will have more problems on your hands than a decent cut.

Hey all. I thought it was about time to post a little story on the nats. I had a great time and would do it all again. What a wicked track. I had a ball out there all but the last race when I hit a blind whoop wrong, got a massive kick in the guts and my kidneys said " NO MORE! " So the last race was just circulating, but I wasn't about to give up. I had to finish.

It was great catching up with old friends and making new ones. The Brentons are a great family with their hearts in the right place. Congrats mate, a well deserved win for sure. Massive mention goes out to ant, just when you thought you seen it all you get passed by, as he calles it, a fat old bastard with a flat front tyre. My head is still spinning after seeing that. Good on ya mate, what an effort.

A massive thankyou goes out to Dom and Wes for making the road trip with all our gear and setting up the pits, and a big hard luck goes out to Howie after trashing a engine in the first moto, Tyler after that huge off put him in hospital and to Pete with his trailer failures getting home.

The after party was awsome and the Brentons were fantastic hosts. Thanks for a great night and thanks to those that got us home. I hope there isn't any incriminating evidence on film Mick, and if there is, can I have a look?

I can't wait to do it all again next year!

Cheers. John Maragozidis, Pred #944.
