TP Queensland has been pulled forward a week as it was too close to the Vic State Titles. Hope this is cool with everyone.
As it is now, you have TP QLD, then a weekend off, then the Vic titles, then a weekend off, then the Nats. Even that is pretty tight.

Can you not talk to the guys that run the HYDEN Ironman 300 in WA and make it a true all ozzy series. That way the WA guys can have a better chance at sponsorships. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Pred- I dont mean to speak on anyones behalf, but the TP series is run under an MA permit, and the Hyden event isnt.
We race loads of MA / MWA events, but we still do Hyden, have only missed a couple. _________________ www.waquadmx.com |

What would be needed to run it as a MA event. Surely it cant be that hard. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

the difference...
first the club would need to apply for affiliation to MWA and pay the fees associated, then get the course licensed(another fee)
then they would need to have all their officials accredited... and get people to officiate as MWA officials(pay the appropriate fees to officials)
then on top of their entry, all riders would need to purchase a 1 event licence (as 90% of riders dont have an MA Licence) adding $44 to their entry. The club would then need to pay a permit(another fee) and riders fees(another fee) to MWA..
then you couldnt have juniors out on the course with seniors.
so.... yes it is a big deal
MWA would probably end up being the big winners, and the Hyden event would be lucky to have 20 entries, instead of 60+
and then next year, they wouldnt bother running it...
sorry if it sounds negative, but hey... would you suddenly pay $170 entry for an event youve always paid under $100 for. _________________ www.waquadmx.com |

I would be quiet happy to pay the $170,00 entry. I have been quiet happy to pay the Finke and the GasDash for the last two years, so as far as I am concerned, the $170.00 would really not scare me away.
BUT I am in minority so, I dont have a say. You say that you would only get 20 riders, well what about the riders from out of state. Do you honestly think that the Carnarvon Off road club gets twenty quad competitors from Carnarvon, yes I realise that there are Bikes and Cars involved in this event, but in my opinion, WA is really getting the short end of the stick especially taking into consideration that apparently WA sells the most Quads( including Farm use, I know ) in the whole of Australia. I think we are thinking for riders when we should be letting them think for themselves.
I am sure I cannot be the only WA quad rider that wants to see off-road racing for quads become bigger not only in WA but in Australia. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Don't give us that poor old WA crap Predatory! You guys over there held the mecca of off road events mate, the Safari. And not one W.A. quad in it. All interstate entrys. Where were you guys? if your the biggest quad selling state. The Nats at Wannerroo was well represented by other states also.
I can't speak for 47 Industries but maybe if you guys come over and do a few Thumbpump races there might be one over you way in the future _________________ Smitty |

Cowchaser, Im sure you can appreciate the difference in price, between paying $170.00 or even $600.00 entry fee and $ 3000.00. For the $170 or $600 you are quite literally capable of entering on a stock bike and finishing. I am sure you can appreciate the challenges( especially with long range fuel tanks ) that were encounted in the Safari, which effectively ruled out most standard and even all the commercially available long range tanks. I would really like to know firstly ( and I dont deny that some did )who actually paid for there own entry fee. I know Wicus did.
As I am not going to Finke next year ( as I will be out of the country ) I might actually take on the challenge of a couple of Thumb Pump events.(annual leave permitting)
I am not involved in MX so I cannot comment on there participation.
I am not asking the rest of Australia to feel sorry for WA in any way, I just think no one else need feel sorry for us as we do a good enough job by ourselves.
There is that old adage( well, there are many, but this one springs to mind ) give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and he can feed himself for a lifetime. If you look at any Major offroad event around the world, you will find they all had humble beginnings.
I was involved as a club chairman in Cape Town and represented the Western Cape on the South African National motorsport body, so I think I am aware of what challenges and costs are involved in setting up events.
Wa in my humble opinion cannot continue to hold only "Black" events.
We will never attract good sponsors if this is the case. I take my hat off to the clubs that hold these events, they do put in a huge effort and in my opinion, do a fantastic job. But maybe all it needs is to be crossing a couple more "t"'s and dotting a few more "i"'s and unfortunately yes, the inevitable entry fee increase( thats where those sponsors come in ) and it might be easier than we think. Unfortunately, the reality of off-road racing is that there is an age limit, but it makes it something to look forward too. Why not start a junior off-road series? It was done in 2008 in South Africa and attracted huge interest and sponsorships and was a great success with some of the top senior riders raising an eyebrow to the ability of the juniors. _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Ok, I might just jump in here.
Smitty is spot on. If we start getting some decent WA numbers to the TP series, I will run one in WA down the track. Entries will probably be about $120 per round next year (or $170 if your name is Predatory). The aim is to run a Junior 200cc 2 stroke/300cc 4 stroke class enduro at the Thumb Pumps this year. That was decided months ago. The format going forward will be Sign in, scrutineering and 1 sighting lap on the Saturday, Junior 1½hr enduro Sunday morning, then Senior 3 hour enduro Sunday starting about 11am.

Mick, will you accept $ 200 for early bird entry? No seriously Mick, i do appreciate what you are doing with the TP series and it would be great to see an event in WA form part of it. I think, but remember I am the minority, that it would definately give incentive to travel to the rest of the events. I did not make last years event due to my quad having mechnical failure, but seeing as I am not doing the Finke, I will endevour to make at least one of the three listed above. I will also endevour to bring along a couple more " Poor Sand Gropers ". _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Love to, but apparently we would not be able to afford it!
If you speak to some of the guys that enter the ponies regularly( Dale Harris, Craig Davies etc), Brett from Legend Quad, Peter Campaign from T& E Club ,Rick Gilletc, etc you will find that I have always been asking about how Quad Off-road racing can be improved/ more races, inclusion in T&E Enduro's, B Class registration etc,etc and everytime I have received A million reasons why it cant be done, and never one positive statement.( with the exception of the B Class Rego ) Its always, thats a good idea but...........and a lot of the reasoning is actually pure speculation. There is no concrete evidence that it will fail, no track record of previous failure. T&E Club did try but there efforts were misdirected due to unreal expectations and bad timing. In my personal opinion the public liabilties issue that everyone seems so afraid of, is actually something that needs to be read( which I have taken the time to do + the ammendments ), and although I do not profess to be an Advocate, I see nothing to be afraid of.
I have seen where Quad off-road racing can go, albeit in a different country, all I want to see is this facit grow and have more events and for the sponsors to get involved. In the short time I have been in Australia I have seen the numbers at events increase and I have seen what money guys are spending on there Quads so I really dont believe that it all comes down to an entry fee at the end of the day. It would actually be great to be able to have a poll to see what the riders themselves have to say regarding entry fees for these type of events _________________ Its not if you win or lose but how you enjoyed the ride! |

Mick is the Senior 3 hour Is this the girls class ???
If so when is the 4 or 5 hour main event with fuel stops and stuff like bathurst .
Predatory they will never have a TP in WA because they get smashed enough when the WA guys go east.
AS for the cost of a event. I try to look for value for money. last year track time was good . I think event promoters should consider track time when pricing a event. Interstate riders will should get a discount if not ride for free! _________________ Truth and Honor and Trust ... never under estimate Them. |

For now TP Queensland will be on the 15th and 16th of August.
Just trying to spread it out a bit from the big state and national events. A bit closer to Safari though, sorry guys.

the only thing in queensland that conflicts with is a round of the thunder x series for the same weekend. 16th. We have very little on the first 2 weekends of july but then it may conflict with other plans you guys may have, just a suggestion _________________ Queensland Quad Riders Association

47 is flat out in July, plus with the cost of entries for Safari being so high, I don't want to run an event just before it. If a rider get's hurt at the TP and had to pull out of Safari, I would be the worlds biggest wonderful person......even more so than I already am.
The date will probably change again, but we have to pencil it in somewhere, so for now it is the 15th and 16th of August.
