I changed my oil on the weekend and used the Castrol 4t which is Mineral 15W-50 range - the book tells me I can use many oils but perference indicated 5W-40 Synthetic or 10W-40 Mineral. After I put in the Castrol 4T it runs OK but there is a smell comming out of the breather pipe and smells like gearbox oil smell (if you smelled gearoil before you will know the smell i am talking about).
Does anyone know anything about oils? as far as I know the first number has to do with viscocity (thickness of oil) when cold and the second number has to do with oil when hot. Therefore, my thinking is, we do not get -50Deg here in Australia, so 15w should be ok as this is rated to about -10 Deg and the 50 indicates the hot temp which is up to 50 Deg which is good in a hot country like Australia.
Is my knowledge correct about the temps or is this some Bull someone has told me?
Anyone has any real knowledge what the best oil is for our bikes?
