hey all.
i remember reding somewhere to get the full potential out of extended arms you need to change wheel offset.
how do i know what offset to use for arms.

if i was to go with a +2 front end on my banshee what offset do i need to change my front rims to or do i need to do it at all?

thanks

nup dont have to change it, only reason youd change it is if you went +3 with 4+1 rims to have less leverage on the hub

I'm pretty sure they are 1.5" out (4+1.5)
Most stockies are and I think the Banshees are the same.

Most aftermarket rims are 2" out (3+2)
And yeah you can get 1" out as well (4+1)

4+1 do clean the steering up quite a bit on any quad but even going that 1/2" skinnier each side just does not seem right unless you go at least +2 A-arms.

I tried 4+1 on my DS450X (stock 4+1.5) last week, doing a few laps with each.
At exactly 46" the DS is about as skinny as they get.
So by changing to 4+1 I was going back to a 45" bike, me and a few mates rode it, and to be honest we did not notice it to be less stable or tippier.
But I did notice the steering was smoother / easier.

The new DS450 MX comes out with 4+1's as a 49 inch bike, But with my skinier X model I'll still stay with the stocky 1.5" out's though.

Interesting experiment to try.

just to clear a few points here 4+1 is the width of the rim on either side of where it bolts to to hub (so 4 inches inside and 1 inch on the outside?)

i tried reading bullets post several times and it confused me even more, can someone help me out?

Bullets right there with the stock yammie offset, I've always prefered to go to 4+1 offset wheels rather than 2+3 especially if your going to change to a longer a arm, either keep the stock front wheels or go 4+1 offset

so 4+1 make the bike skinner but helps with steering?

also does 4+1 mean 1 inch out and 4 inches on the inside?

Yep, you got it.
Just be carefull if ordering though, because I have heard of some makes refering to the dimensions the other way around.
ITP's are definitely 4" in and 1" out.
Austraco stocks them in a few different variations.

nah mines all standard mate, dont need anything special for flat track! when i rebuild the bike i want to put some +3+1s on though, with a -2 round house swing arm. dunno what shocks, prolly just standards, and with a sway bar up front.

lonestar were having a sale a few weeks ago, some pretty good prices, just a pity about the exchange rate. give em a call anyway see if its still on.
