All,

I'm a newbie so please excuse any stupid questions or wording...

I want to get my 7yr old a quad bike for Christmas and after much web trolling & a few visits to various bike dealers I have narrowed it down to either an Polaris Outlaw 50 or the Suzuki LTZ50. But I am struggling to decide which will get a run, and here why:

Polaris - Like the look of the bike, reviews i've read from oversea's sites indicate that the bike 'goes' quite well & may not be as sluggish as other big name 50cc quads on the market... The only issue I have is the quality issue?? In the flesh the bike looks pretty close to the Suzuki but its a nagging doubt for me.

Suzuki - Like the look of the bike also, maybe a bit more. After viewing the bike in the flesh my perception is that its build quality may be just slightly beter than the Polaris, HOWEVER, reviews & forum comments from overseas sites indicate the LTZ 50 is a slug due to the factory CDI so much so that it can struggle to climb hills etc... This is a definate detractor for me.

I would like to make it clear that I'm not looking for a rocket for my 7yr old just a bike that will handle moderately hilly terrain and keep him amused for a couple of years & if looked after be able to be used by his 3yr old sister after that.

Upshot - Can I have some Aussie owner feedback regarding either of these 2 bikes. For the Outlaw: has it served you well? And the Suzuki: Is it the slug the Yanks say it is??

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated as this will be our 1st ATV.

JM, my brother has a 50cc Suzuki which is years old and looks it but it motors along nicely with his 8 year old kids on it. It has no dramas climbing moderate hills with them on it.

cheers,

My 8 year old has had a Polaris 90 for the last 2 years. It gets ridden every weekend and has been bullet proof.
My 5 year old has had her Polaris 50 for about a year and a half with the same outcome.
Both my kids started riding at about 3 years old on an old Suzuki LT50.
I can't fault either the Polaris or the Suzuki.
The Suzuki is more a beginners bike though as it doesn't have a great amount of get up and go.
I'm not really sure about buying your 7 y/o a 50 though. He will outgrow it real quick and if he is pottering around behind you the lack of speed may annoy him after a little while. The 50 will also struggle a bit with the hills.
My suggestion would be to look for a 90 for the young bloke and both brands you have mentioned are very reliable.

I agree with Losty about getting the 90. My boss has both the suzuki 50 and 90. I don't really know how they go but his 5 year old used to ride the 50 and his 11 the 90. But his oldest got a crf150 so now his 5 year old rides the 90 and his 3 year old the 50. He has just screwed the limiters right in. They can only just reach the foot wells though. Smile

I agree with losty, on the 90, i ride an outlaw 525 irs and it is great, no problems from when i bought it, I would go for polaris, from what i have heard suzuki isnt the best to buy, but thats totally up to you.
I would suggest the 90, and if you think it is a bit fast, polaris has a speed limiter on the youth models that is really easy to use, but im not so sure about suzuki.
Ya kids will love it. Haha, How ya gonna put a quad under the tree?

You said you were probably going to hand the 50 down to the 3 yr old when the 7 yr old is ready to step up...
So it is probably a good idea to get the 7 yr old on a 50 for the first year or so, just so he can get hose crashes they have (usually while looking at mum and dad) out the way on the smaller bike.

If you can, pick the brand you might put your 7 year old on in the future (90cc).
that way you'll have 2 of the same brand and only one dealler to deal with.
And the kids might not fight, because they're the same colour.
Other than than that, IMO there is nothing between them.
Your choice.

A Lt90 cdi will plug straight into the 50 and it makes quite a difference but it costs 450 bucks, good luck with your decission.
