Just a thought... I don't know if it will suit you, but...

Try the agencies that place overload staff into the mining game.
Just about all mines do 'big' X-mas shutdowns, where thay are usually all screaming for extra staff, Fitters, Servicemen and trades assistants.
Lots of hours and big money.
It might last 2 - 6 weeks, and if they like you, and you want to, they might keep you on full time.

yeah but you will make alot more in the long run and once you are a tradesman it wont be so easy to lose your job... eg it would take 4 years of training the bosses wife to take your job instead of a few weeks!

EASY; go to a local pub and ask if they would need a GLASSY for the Christmas season. Trust me, this is a great job which would tide you over your difficult period . I done it for one night and ended up working there for 2 years. And ended up wit plenty of bar shifts aswell. ... Very social / happy/ clean working enviroment.. thurs fri sat nights are there busy times . And you know your liked when you get to call LAST DRINKS.
